I ate my breakfast out in the back yard this morning. A great way to start a new day with the birds celebrating and feasting in the Mulberry tree. As annoying and messy as that tree can be, I love hearing and seeing the birds flock to it to get there fill each day.

I think a day at the lake is in store for us today. My husband went out for his walk, but noticed his gear is ready to go. So my plan is to take a lunch with us. Sandwich for him, salad in a jar for me, as well as fruit and water. Better get in to get that lunch packed up.

Fishing wasn't in the cards today. My granddaughter stopped by for a visit. We don't see her that often, so fun to catch up with her. She will be off to college soon, so it was nice she came for a visit. She left and then my son stopped. Almost like a reviving door here. I didn't have anything ready to cook, so eggs it was. I saved my salad and had soup with it for supper. We are suppose to get a little rain tomorrow, so a trip out to the lake looks doubtful. Oh well.... A lot of summer left to get it in.

That jar salad for a picnic sounds great, sorry you missed out on the fishing and picnic. I'd have missed out on it too, if my grandkids were in from college. It's always nice to have the grandkids around!

DMZ, I use to make a Mason Jar salads all the time. Line them up in the fridge and have them ready for a few days. I got away from it, but decided to get them going again, making only a couple instead of 4 or 5. If you google you will get a lot of ideas. I don't put the dressing in though. My daughter and I made a number of them for our road trips when granddaughter was playing AAU summer ball. She usually readied meals for a slow cooker she brought along, so all could get thrown in the cooker while the kid played ball. I made salads in the jars for us to have along with them. They recommend putting the dressing in the bottom when layering, but I choose to not do that and put on when time to eat. Eating from a jar is hard, but you can turn out on a plate. I intended to use paper ones yesterday. Our visit with GD was fun. She is excited, but also a little scared to be off on her own this fall. Her mom has always been her rock, so it will be a little strange for her to not have mom around to give a hand or ear when she needs it. She will be OK though. She plays basketball and proved many people wrong when they told her she was too small for the game. She is also is a runner. She graduated HS with honors, played two sports and worked a part time job too. She does date and had a steady for awhile, but that ended as they are both going off in different directions to school. Anyway it was fun to have her spend the afternoon chatting about back in the day at grandma's and what her plans are.
