Incredible! So happy for you. She is kind of young actually. Really does tell us this diet stuff is very serious. Serious is not a big part of my MO, as you know. Prayers for her!

Good news. The medics will have their ideas on diet. Listen to them first then decide on a suitable diet.

LCHF is often used in medical settings. In her case you'd have to find a good doctor to supervise. She's still very vulnerable. But rapid weight loss does seem in order.

She's probably going to need a liquid diet or strict calorie reduction diet for a month or two. The Drs SHOULD help but she is in Mexico so probably way different then here in the good Ol' USA. Glad she has been given this second chance.

So glad you got some good news, girl.

I agree with Jocko. Let the medicos figure it out. Too many things to comment on diet on the board, but any reduction simply in calories would see her weight drop. They'll likely go balanced. Once she's a bit more stable and some weight is off then a switch to a different diet might be in order. Good news!

Have her watch Butter Bob on YouTube. He is a "regular guy" who tells us what we can buy at WalMart to eat healthy. Everyone around her can tell her what to do, but any real change will come from inside herself. Meanwhile, a diet of love is really what she needs right now 💖

TBH, fasting is probably best at this point, she is effectively fasting at the hospital. In your shoes, I would say no to tube feeding.

I would contact Dr. John McDougall in California or Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn who is Bill Clinton's doctor. Both can be found on You Tube or on Google. They treat patients. I have been a fat free vegan 6 years. Saves lives. At least Google them to listen to their rationale. How is your loved one able to secure excess calories?

I don't remember whether you are there with her in person..? If so you could share some of the things you have tried and liked (food and tips) We can lead/ share best by our example, and not get discouraged when she stumbles on her recovery. Happy she has pulled through gets to work on her health picture :)

So glad to hear she's doing better. Long road ahead and she will require a lot of help as will her caretaker. With her size and health issues it sounds like she was not obtaining her own food which means there is an "enabler" somewhere in the picture. Hopefully you will get medical assistance that will give her a diet she can be satisfied with and stay on.

I had a sis in law in what I'd consider the same condition. She had a warning and went into rehab and dropped 100 within months but when she left the path was right back up. She could not give up the addiction and never made it to 48. Whatever you do you have to consider this an addiction and it won't go away easily. Prayers and good luck.

Thank you to everyone! Yes it's a relief she came back to life, really miraculous! I'm here in California with the twins, my hubby went with my daughter to be by her side. My MIL is very stubborn and somewhat bossy, I love her so much and she's really laid back- except when it comes to food, hahaha, Mexico is really not into salads so much yet, her idea of a vegetable is a Serrano chile.. Hahaha. She's lost about 8 kilos at the hospital but must be water weight. I'm estimating at least 100 lbs must be dropped so she can start walking, if that's even possible with an oxygen tank. What's sad is that she tried to get weight loss surgery 3 times back in 2013 but was turned down- both insurance and even private pay. I guess the moral of the story is- try not to wait until it's too late! Do something about your weight while you can still move or obesity will really take quality years off your life!

Sounds like things are progressing. Happily, you can walk with an oxygen tank. They have smaller ones for just that purpose (with their own rolling cart) and also you can get a "backpack" unit that is small and lightweight that "makes" air. She might not be up for that kind of unit, though. Baby steps.
