I get confused with it and don't want to pull out a tape measure to figure it out. So instead I do the drop down on the food portion size which gives ounces or grams or some kind of other measure to be more compatible with my thinking on the serving I choose. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, but the point is that I don't know the grams of the piece which I ate it.

Cakes are going to vary, but give it your best guess. Would 12 of what you did eat make a full cake? Or would it be more like six? T then you are 2 servings.

I wouldn't judge by grams or ounces unless you made it from a box and know what the start weight was.

I bought a little digital kitchen scale and took out the guesswork. Like you illustrated, what is one piece? I have found on FS you can get almost everthing is weight, volume or by piece.

I also picked up a scale from kohls. About $25. Works great. Not digital but I love it.

I always weight because I would rather overestimate food than underestimate. I had an old office postage scale laying around (we closed a business 10 years ago) and use it. Works well and the price was right!

Portion sizes are tough for me too. I tend to overestimate.. I lost more weight, faster than expected this week. Maybe partly because I was sick. I like the recipe app on this site. I can store and get nutritional values and calorie counts for homemade vegan meals 👒

I reread you comment Zoomcroom and I get your difficulty. You might try cutting the meal or dessert into individual portions_ 12 pieces or 8 slices etc., then record how many you ate. Some things I know I am going to eat at least two portions of. I create a record entry of a double portion and keep using it over and over. Saves time. Over time you can eye ball the individual slices or pieces without actually cutting them.

Last entry, but I'm going to take one more stab at answering your question. You are being given the serving size of a 9in diameter pie pan, sliced into 12 individual portion sizes, or an 18oz cake sliced into 8 pieces as 1 portion. Hopefully that helps.
