Five-Two Cowboy's Journal, 20 June 2016

I can't believe this works so well for me. I've been reluctant to point to my food diary but it's real and 100% accurate since day one. I half expected to stall before now and then some gym-bro would chime in with "told you so, now lift something while grunting, bro!" I told someone my diary is weight loss blasphemy. For me this thing is D-I-E-T in letters 10 feet tall and exercise in a typewritten footnote. I almost haven't exercised. Eventually, I will. I'll do more because I can, but so far, it hasn't played a role and I feel great. I've always liked rainy days and now Mondays don't get me down either.
239.0 lb Lost so far: 32.0 lb.    Still to go: 65.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Agreed Carmen. I'm in Chicago. I'll eventually begin some weight training. Was an athlete once and maybe will be again. Old injuries and pain in one hip, knees, and both shoulders might hinder my comeback. Being lighter is helping.

I'm the same, I haven't exercised much at all in the year it's taken me to lose over 200lbs. I figured it like this, if I couldn't lose weight without being committed to exercise for hours a day that I knew I wouldn't always be able to get then I probably needed to stay fat. Don't get me wrong, exercise is great, good for the body and overall health, but it has minimal impact on weight loss because the amount of calories burned for an hour of intense exercise is about equal to a snickers bar.

I have always been the sort of person that can't stand wasting energy on purely working out - I have to be doing something productive or playing a competitive game (I played basketball at San Diego State University in college). So my work out is about a 1/4 acre veggie garden and 1/4 acre landscaping maintenance. My reward is vine-ripened tomatoes all year round and organic, beautiful produce to eat. I have a sedentary career (I'm a professional artist that spends most of her time on the computer designing) so I need to get up and MOVE during the day. All of it is coming together to feel really good. I'm at 13 lbs. lost in a month and I'm with you 5:2 it's so easy this way I can't believe it :-)

I do a lot of gardening, farming really, and yard work, I don't really count that as exercise because I enjoy it. lol I'm talking about "going to the gym" type of exercise, nope, none of that nonsense for me.

Glad I'm not alone in this. This is where FS shines for me. Thank you all. Yes, yardwork and gardening are great Philmck, that makes so much sense, I wish I'd said it! My youngest, a 17 year old son, has never outrun me. That's because I haven't raced him since he was 10. I've agreed to that rematch in 33 years when he's 50. A challenge for both of us! Thanks everyone.

Good work....weight loss is diet....all diet. I lift because I like it and it enables me to do other things much easier than if I didn't. If you don't like it...don't do it, find something else you enjoy and do that..

I was in same situation with a lot of injuries, chronic daily pain and surgeries. I Quit being active for years and went to a desk job while my weight kept climbing. Passed out walking 2 flights of stairs so it's a choice for me to be more active now. I was lifting weights with good results but still had chronic pain. Most of my exercise recently is focused on rehabilitating corrective movements, one day of HIIT and a little bike riding after work to enjoy the weather. Like I said it's my choice based on my goals - I don't want to deal with physical limitations anymore and I feel like I have no energy if I am not active.
