delede's Journal, 31 May 2016

I am still trying to get the proper macronutrient balance for a ketogenic or Atkins-type lacto-vegetarian diet. Today wasn't too bad: The good thing about the carbs is that they were almost all high fiber foods (about 39g total fiber), so my net carbs are about 64g. I hope to bring that under 40 in the next few days.

Thanks for the encouragement ImLaura! There is not much on keto-lacto-vegetarian meal plans online, so I have to build it as I go.

i was told by another member on here to try an shoot for 70% fat in that little pie chart at bottom of your daily food intake..carbs being smallest piece of the pie..an proteins between fat an carbs..but everyone has to do what works for them..keep at it..you can do this..

Thanks for the tip, Wannabhealthier. My daily charts show around 57%. So far I have been under my calorie allowance each day, so I guess I can add some more coconut oil,or something.

Coconut oil, grass fed butter and avocado (fruit and oil) are all very good for you fats. Being a woman, I work towards keeping my carbs below 30g, my protein at 55g or slightly less and the rest in fats. I used to try to keep my calories pretty low but have not since I added in some good oils. Since the carbs add up quickly, I try to make them really count nutritionally. Cauliflower seems to be the new sweetheart vegi! ...crazy way to lose pounds, but it is happening! Give it a try :)

Will try, Becca P. Back when I used to diet carefully, it was all about counting calories and eliminating fats. Life eventually got in the way and I gave up the fight, so my weight went up and up and up. Now, I am learning that it is all about balancing the source of the calories. I never would have guessed that I would have to eat more fats to lose fat!
