EDC1972's Journal, 20 May 2016

The good news is, I think I have kicked my cigarette and alcohol addictions! I smoked and drank almost daily for a long time...gross. I am not even thinking about either anymore.

The bad news is, I have replaced those habits with food.

I really need to shift my mentality. I am totally ok with eating well and exercising, I have done it before and I know how good it feels. But my brain doesn't want to get off the couch and I give in to my cravings without a fight.

Losing those is worth gaining 5 pounds. Now you just get the food sorted out and you're rockin' it.

so proud of you on your first victories over those two demons! that is a huge feat! if you can do that, you can certainly keep going and work on the next one. but give yourself a little grace and wrap your head around this. you can do this!!

It's hard when you quit smoking.. even when you watch your food intake you seem to gain some weight but it will eventually level off. Great job kicking those habits.

Don't go back to smokes, unless you want to look much ,than you are, someday. It will extend your life, save your teeth, which are very expensive these days, and make you feel better. I would rather be fat, than dead. Smoking is just plain awful! Guess you know how I feel. Drinking is bad too. I'm trying to stay away from that.

Not sure that food is a habit. But I know cigarettes have a hold on to folks. I have never smoked tobaccy but MJ for sure. Only the lack of money keeps me from MJ now. We have to deal with food everyday. I drank a grape soda with a cigarette the can when I was young. That turned me off right away.

praise the Lord! get the tobacco and alcohol totally out of your system, then concentrate on your new eating habit. I smoked for 40 years and had a 12year alcohol addiction. It is like anything else, its not hard to do you just have to convince yourself that you really want to this more than anything. I have been free for 8 years.

Be patient!!!! You already made a huge change, you can't do everything at the same time. Exercise is basically everything, not just going to the gym. To me it is still intimidating going to the gym, for example. But I just recently (only like six weeks ago or so) discovered the joy of walking. And that can be slow at first, just half an hour. And the good news is that if you can make it as a habit, the body starts to crave for that movement. Now I can almost get crazy if I don't go out on day, or even worst if I miss two days. Small walking projects, going to the store, skip two or three bus stop rides and walk instead, ect. It will come slowly. And as you mentioned you already know the feeling of doing exercise, so it will come!!! Keep up the great job!
