Here's what not to do to get yourself off a weight plateau: Get a kidney stone and spend two days in the hospital. I'm still in the hospital this a.m. but expect to go home by midday. Most likely I will be scheduled for lithotripsy in about a week. This was not an adventure I planned on, needless to say. Unfortunately, after two days on pain meds and IV fluids, this kidney stone seems to be happy where it is. So now I'm waiting on getting another xray to see what it's doing, and then I will be released to home with pain meds and I can go about my business for a week or so and if it's still there, then they will do the lithotripsy. Not happy. Not at all happy.

Sorry to hear you are still in the hospital, HM! I imagine you are not a happy camper. I pray your kidney stone passes and you have relief from this soon, but if you do the lithotripsy - the kidney stone should be gone. Sorry you have to go through this. I understand it is painful. Hugs!

Yeah, that sucks. My dad had lithotripsy for a stone and the good news is that the stones were then small enough that I don't think he noticed when they passed. Best of luck that you are soon looking at this event through the rear-view mirror.

When I started losing weight 6 years ago, I developed gall stones and had to have my gall bladder removed. I understand stones can be a result of dieting. Can you have lemon? I've read that lemon juice can help keep kidney stones from forming. I'm not sure about after they've already formed. I'm sending positive thoughts for the stone to pass and the pain to go away. Hang in there! Hugs!!!

Let us know, if it isn't too much to ask, what it's made of. They are analyzing my friend's stone to know what the build up was so he can know what to avoid in the future...

Rckc - I really do want to know what the makeup of the stone is. They didn't send me home with a strainer to catch the stone though, so if it passes in the next week before I see the doctor again, I probably won't be able to get the analysis. Johanne -- yes lemon juice helps because of citrate, and guess what? -- I squeeze lemon into every glass of water I drink. So I guess I have to go further and do more low-sugar lemonade and limeade.
