Hermiones Mom's Journal, 12 May 2016

So the scale says I've gained 3 pounds in a week. We all know that's not possible, but it's a good reminder for me of how narrow the margin of error is -- I probably have a narrower range of calories from loss-to-maintain-to-gain that I've ever had before, especially if the study of the Biggest Loser contestants is valid. I'm not going to worry too much, but I am going to try to get myself back into a better routine next week. My allergies, bum leg, and work load have restricted my exercise the past several weeks, but I didn't lower my calorie count. Even though the food diary says I'm still eating less than I'm using, I'm not sure how accurate that is, and I'm pretty convinced that regardless of its accuracy, it has to show an 800+ deficit daily for me to lose a pound a week. In any case, I'm getting myself back under control after several weeks of fooling around, and so I imagine by this time a week from now that weight will be gone. How annoying.

I once commented on a journal that losing weight was 80% diet and 20% exercise. Mahjohn commented that losing weight is 100% diet. He is right! Exercise is great for keeping mobile, heart health and many many other reasons, but not the most effective way to lose weight.

I think you're right FrankieBlueEyes -- but I also think if I had cut back on my calories during the couple weeks I haven't been exercising I'd be better off. But seriously, I knew it was going to be a big struggle for me to get out of the 160s and into the 150s, so I'm not overly surprised or concerned. I think so long as I am in the 150s by the end of May, I will be satisfied.

Fluctuations are part of the process...they stink though!

I have a situation just a few months ago where I actually gained 5 pounds in 3 days it's not actually wait but rather your body's hormones trying to preserve body weight for some catastrophic set of circumstances so it is very possible that your bathroom scales which show that kind of weight gain in a matter of days

Thanks for the encouragement blkbear. I'm sure it will be fine. After the three days since I made this post, I'm already down 1 1/2 pounds, so maybe by my official weigh-in on Tuesday, I'll be back to 160 and I can start focusing again on seeing that 15 in my weight.
