Hermiones Mom's Journal, 02 April 2016

Had a really nice time at Target this morning. I bought a bunch of exercise-wear to replace my plus size stuff. There was too much fabric flapping around to be safe or comfortable, and it just was not working for skating. Clothes for indoor ice skating are tricky as the weather warms up. It won't be frigid in the rink, but it won't be warm either, so you have to have long-sleeved sweatshirts and things like that so you're warm enough, but you're not sweating. I ended up getting the same shirt in 3 colors, which I think will work with the down vest I have. Up until now, I've been wearing a short, light-weight down coat, but when the temp in the rink goes up to 40+, the down coat is too warm. So I figured I better prepare. Anyway, I had a good time there and also got a cute little dress for summer. I was kind of surprised though -- Target doesn't carry slips anymore!I have to go on line to find one to wear with the dress.

Wow! Indoor ice skating sounds so fun! And I think you're right on the money with the shirts in different colors. My mom taught me that if you find something you like and fits well - get it in different colors! :)

I'm so glad you found things you really like....particularly long-sleeved sweatshirts. I know when the seasons change it can be difficult to find off-season things in the stores. It sounds too like the sweatshirts will be easier to move in than the down coat. And the little summer dress was a bonus! I know what you mean about slips...I haven't seen one in the stores in ages. I think they may have lost favor a bit ;-( I picture you as a little rosy-cheeked sprite out there gliding on the ice and it makes me smile. It sounds like you're having great fun.

Vickie 5966 -- that rosy cheeked sprite reference cracks me up. I still feel as though I'm an elephant on ice skates, but I'm sure that will pass as I continue to shrink and build self confidence!

I'm still betting my depiction of that person on the ice is closer than yours!

with today's see through fashions, modesty has gone out the window, so selling slips is considered medieval, half of the population wears their underwear as outerwear and it's become so normal no-one even raises an eyebrow....

Thanks everyone. Last night I went on line and figured out the slip problem: Everyone is selling body-shaper type undergarments, and I don't really need that nor do I want it for the summer. And then I found some slips that cost $70 or more, and I am not spending that! It took a while, but I found a slip on sale for under $30, so I got a black and a beige. I'm sorry if I'm old fashioned, but I'm not keen to have that see-through look.

Ha! Me neither. It takes away from the pretty dress.

Holy Guacamole on the slip cost!! I confess the last time I needed a half slip that I safety pinned an old one. Looks like it may be time for me to start the search. I agree with everyone about the see-though look. Personally, I don't really think it looks that good on any body shape.

Vickie 5966 -- and I'm not a big fan of that underwear on the outside look either! I got a full slip not a half slip. I find that half slips sort of ride up on you under dresses. I never wear skirts so I really only need a slip for dresses.
