ARGH!!! I hate the recipe function on this site. None of my recipes are approved. Not that I care so much about that but then I can't edit them. So if I realized I made a mistake in the tortuous process, I have to start all over again and give it another name and then I have two recipes for the same thing in my cookbook.
I make a lot of my food (or try to) and I really want an accurate idea of nutritional info. What else do people do? Enter into another site and then use the info it spits out?
Also, there is no way homemade stock has 8 g of fat or whatever is in the FS database. You skim the fat off the top after the stock cools. It all rises to the top. It's chemistry or physics or something. Almost every other site gives something like 0-1.5g fat for the same portion. I'll err on the side of caution and say maybe some fat is in the actual stock. But when you buy stock in a can even the non fat free kinds have very little fat. Good stock HAS no fat. Definition of good stock.
Sorry for the rant. Moving on.

As much as I love this site, it does have its flaws. I put my canned soups in, and they come out with the wrong points and caleries. I don't know if someone else entered them, and entered them wrong, but half the time I have to say that I'm either eating double the amount, or half the amount to make it the right point! Good for you making your own food. Dinner to me is something from the frozen section thrown into the microwave....

Well, I like to cook. Though if I was working I don't know that I'd ever eat anything but take out Thai food and hot dogs. Yeah, I guess people make mistakes. And that's fine--I'm sure I've entered things incorrectly too. But there should be a way to fix it without making a whole new entry. I just wrote a rant to the Fat Secret people but last time I did that they just wrote back something like, We are unaware of any problems with our database. Guess I'll deal with it and move on.

MomofTwoGirls - I do notice this a lot as well but I just update the information to the label that I have. Most things these days are undergoing restructure. There is a LOT of focus on MSG, Sodium, trans Fats, High fructose corn syrup, fiber, yada yada yada anyway point is the recipes major food suppliers are using are being adjusted to cut down on these things. So many foods will require an update on the nutritional info.
beet - I TOTALLY AGREE!!! Also hate that I will have to re-enter the recipes one day when I finally have the time to fix measurements For example I would rather enter "use one jar of sauce: instead of "use 7 servings of sauce." But I don't always have the time to enter in new ingredient measures to have such items available. grrrrrr

Mostly annoyed bc now that I am tracking points the amt of fat has a big influence. Never cared so much about fat before. Argh. Moving on. Gotta get offline and do some housework before my son slips and hurts himself on my filthy floor.

I have had the same issue with the recipe section, it is very annoying to have to go in and re-do it if there was an error or the serving size changes and so on. I do the same as MrsJayDubya on the other food items, if it is the exact same item, size and everything, I just edit the info to match my label. It is a pain but I want my journal to be as accurate as possible, so I can't FORGET that I ate more or less of something. : )

If I am going to take the time to enter all this stuff, I want it to be right. Or at least as close as possible given whatever info I have.

I agree with you 100% about the recipes. It's totally annoying to deal with if you cook very often, which I do. I have gotten to the point that I estimate the higher calorie ingredient quantities in one serving of whatever I made and just enter those in separately instead of doing a whole recipe. So if I make soup, I'll put in the potatoes and olive oil but not the carrots, fat free broth, etc. Sorry also about your knee--I hope you get some good answers.

Thanks! Yeah, I have been thinking to just skip over the veggies and spices. It just annoys the OCD side of my brain. Thanks about my knee.

I found a way to edit my recipes, I don't share them. i just enter the ingredients and the number of servings. it's "pending" but not "waiting for approval". that's the only way you can edit and change something if you need. hope it helps!

Thanks, Jessyline. Some of my recipes are "pending" and I CAN edit/delete those. But the others are all "waiting for approval." I have no idea how FS decides which is which. Or are you saying you know how to change status to pending? I enter the ingreds and servings and I still have most of mine listed as "waiting for approval--" though a couple are mysteriously listed as "pending."

Oh, wait, I get it. You're saying if you choose not to share it will automatically be pending? Gotcha. I will do that and see if it works. Thanks!

You should be able to edit your recipes even if they are not approved.. I have a lot in my cookbook because I also try to cook my own meals and I can now enter the actual ingredients I use (ie.. fat free miracle whip) that feature was not available before... If you need to edit a recipe, you can just enter it and then view or edit the recipe. Also, I find that some items entered are from different countries, ie: some US products have a different amt of sodium or are a different size than Canadian or UK items - I usually try to enter my own and don't share so that others cannot change my nutritional values information... If you submit the recipes then you have to wait for them to be approved before they can be changed... The information on the site may not all be totally accurate, but it sure helps give you a better idea of what you are eating... and the pts if you are on WW... can you imagine if you had to do all this manually? good luck..

yes! It was a little confusing, but you got it!! I never understood how they decide to approve a recipe or not, none of mine was and one day I decided not to share them, since anyway they were not going anywhere. and I found my "pending" recipes (because I don't enter the different steps to make the recipe) can be edited... did you try already? did it work?
