Westgal's Journal, 02 November 2009

Commitment is vital -- a commitment to treat fitness like you would any important job you do. And I say fitness, not thin-ness, because you can be thin and quite unhealthy. There's a woman in my aerobics class who has been desperately trying to get thin FAST. Her face is all saggy and gaunt. She looks so tired. I don't know what she's doing to lose weight, but it isn't improving her LOOKS at all. Her commitment is obviously temporary or she wouldn't be in such a hurry to lose all the extra pounds so she can get back to her old habits. Commitment is vital. I am never going back to my old habits, so I can lose weight at a healthy rate and not worry about how quickly, since I am committed to staying on my new way of being forever. Eventually I will lose all the weight I should and will have to revise my caloric intake to stay that way. I've lost more than 30 pounds and I eat no less than 1500 calories a day. I can do that because my goal is optimal health, not thinness.
