can you give yourself a time out? I know it sounds silly but I put my self in time out when I have my niece. I stay in the room but I always tell her "Aunty is stressed out please go play for 5 minutes while I relax." I have done this with her since she moved in with me at the age of 2 (she is now 6) and it has worked wonderfully.

If I leave the room I'm afraid the huge mess I already have will get worse :( My 4 year old has decided listening to me isn't required anymore.

Remember - You may be losing weight but you are still bigger than him! Good time to teach a new game "Pick up Toys". I should talk, I have a dog that does the same thing. He'll take all his toys out of the toy box until he figures out which one he wants. I need to teach him the "Pick up Toys" command.

I never left the room, I just made her aware that I needed to be left alone until I was ready to deal with her, that way I didn't lose my mind, and I didn't almost kill her for not listening to me lol but I could watch what she was doing.

Buffy when you get your dog taught come teach mine because she does the same thing!

I have been trying to get her to pick up her toys all morning! She acts like I am not even talking or just doesn't care what I have to say. Then my 1 year old thinks he needs to take the toys back out and throw them. Either that or he is literally whining the entire time unless he is eating or sleeping. I don't know what is going on this week but it has been terrible.

Missy - That is why YOUNG women have kids. I'm too old to take that.

Even being young I feel so old some days...

So sorry Missy. Is there someone that could watch them for an hour or so. Long enough to give you short breather?

I wouldn't trade being a Mom for anything in the world but honestly why do some days have to go so bad you just want to scream or cry or do anything to make it better.

Singing the clean up song seems to help my 5 year old, and I fully understand where you are coming from, I have a 5 and 22 month old, and they think my 5 yr old either has Severe ADHD or Oppositional Defiance Disorder :-/ Makes it rough, but you just have to take it one day at a time.

Karen- After moving to a new city and my Mom moving over 3 hours away...no :( My boyfriend works night so he sleeps during the day. He helps when he is here but we don't live together.

I swear the moon affects children - my niece has been a pain all week, todays arguement was cloths, its cold here as in 30 degrees this morning when we woke up and she wanted to wear a tanktop and a skirt to school. I said no and it ended up being almost world war III over clothes. Do you have a friend that has kids? maybe a play date?

That sucks, I'm sorry. I know that can be rough. My mom used to work for a special needs non profit org here in Indy, I would volunteer when I could. It's definitely an eye opener to what people go through. Just stay strong, and you will get through it. and you have a whole community here to vent to :) I wish you the best of luck

Not many friends around here, and the one that does have a son is going through some really bad stuff with an ex and her son is staying with family. Things are just really not going so great all around.

Thanks Blue, sometimes venting helps me at least a little bit. Now if only her listening would increase I'd be much happier. One thing I absolutely hate is repeating myself over and over.

Sorry! maybe take them to a park and run some steam off and then come home and try to get them to clean up. I know how hard getting a kid to do something is, and sometimes...its just easier to leave the mess and re-vist it in the morning, unless its super awful and then sometimes a time out and a re-visit is in need. You know?

This week we have a thing called Round-up which is like a rodeo thing with Native Americans. So my parks and streets are packed and honestly covered in animal poo. Just breathing outside I can taste it :( I think there's a carnival too as a part of it but since I barely moved here I'm not very familiar with everything that goes with Round-up
