I'm going to attempt a 14 day fast. The longest I've ever done, last year and this year, was a 5-day fast, and it was great. But I don't think that's long enough to let your body do its thing and detox all that processed/refined poison and decades of heavy metals that your body has consumed.

It's going to suck twice as bad as the 5-day fast. One mainly because I'll get bored of doing it for so long and two, being used to eating at least once a day, fasting is an entirely different thing, especially if you've never done it. Don't get me wrong, I did wean myself in preparation for this by doing intermittent fasting (16hr, 18hr, 24hr, 36hr, 72hr, then the 5-day 120hr fast), but a 14-day fast has never been attempted by me.

When you put your body in certain "modes" long enough, it begins to heal itself. Your body is an amazing survival machine, without it adapting to weather patterns (like Ice Ages), we wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have evolved to be the deadliest animal on earth capable of destroying planets with nukes. We've harnessed the power of the atom, but can't control our own health? Whats wrong with this picture? Right?

There were people who were force to go beyond 14-days of no food, especially during WWII in the Nazi camps where the prisoners were literally starving after 30-40 days. I mean you don't have an infinite supply of bodyfat so it can last you so long, but it's a myth that you'll enter starvation mode, especially if you have a double digit body fat percentile. If you have single digit bodyfat, then it's more likely you'll enter starvation mode first and die quickly. Which boggles my mind when all of these skinny people who go on the "breatharian diet" and all of a sudden die.

It's because 1. You don't have enough body fat to last you that long, and 2. You have absolutely no knowledge of human biochemistry and haven't done enough research to fully comprehend what will be going on in your body to attempt such diets. The breatharian diet as well as water-fasting only works on obese to morbidly obese people, not people who are in the single digit bodyfat ranges, unless you're a professional bodybuilder who knows what they're doing.

Before you jump into any diet, ALWAYS thoroughly do your research first. Jumping into something blindly can kill you. Ignorance isn't bliss, it's Karma waiting to happen. Always remember that.

Wow, that sounds kind of torturous. It seems tough to fast for a day or two.

I can't imagine 14 days. do you have NO calories, just water?

I've done this before, and my hair started growing in like straw (brittle & breaking), my skin turned dull, and my nails grew in kinda yellowish. Lacking protein for that long will not be worth the weight loss (you're looking at about 10-12 lbs.).

Yeah, it will suck for the first 3-5 days, but after that, the cravings subside because you're in full-on leptin hormone mode.

Actually, going on a fast for 14 days, especially if you're already in ketosis, won't do much to your muscles or glycogen stores because ketosis puts you in glycogen and protein sparing mode. But, you have to actually be in ketosis, even if you're not, you will definitely enter ketosis on day 14. lol

Yeah, well, just water and my multivitamins, fish oil gel caps, and vitamin D3 gel caps.

@warrenwinter, it's only torturous if you're addicted to carbs. Since I'm in ketosis, I'm not even worried about it.

Well, while on atkins I was on ketosis but I couldn't imagine not eating at all. But ey, to each their own, just don't go anorexian. Serious. This is how some of them started.

Intermittent Fasting (IF) may be more beneficial for autophagy (cell cleanup), as the process peaks around 14-18hrs into a fast. On a long-term fast, the danger is cannibalization of Heart Muscle. Muscle is sacrificed after glycogen during the first few days, however, if in Ketosis, the body is already prepped and in fat-burning mode, however, on a long-term fast, even if Fat is available, the body will return to cannibalize muscle tissue, which is where the concerns for loss of Heart muscle come into play.

The longest fast Mahatma Gandhi did was 21 days, and he was doing it for religion. He didn't even die from a weak heart, he died by assassination. He was 78 years old and in the greatest health of his life, not to mention extremely wise. I'd rather feed my mind over my heart muscles. Heart muscles can be grown by doing cardio. Muscles can be replaced, but once neurons are lost, they're lost forever. The Ancient Rarámuri Native Americans can run 200 miles in 2 days and they ate a low protein diet as well as fasted for up to 7 days during the hunt, so protein wasn't a factor at all when it came to heart health. I don't do cardio anyways, so there's really no need to have heart muscles to run 200 miles. I'm more a Mahatma Gandhi person than a Rarámuri runner. When it comes down to it, I will always choose mental aptitude and cognitive performance over cardio fitness any day. It's because of using my noggin that I'm able to lose 71 pounds and 25% bodyfat and keep it off. Most people do it the hard way and inefficiently by killing themselves in the gym, but I know better after so many trial and errors, I smartened up and did something that was way more effective and permanent, transcending those who are still grinding it out in the gym like a mouse running on a wheel going nowhere. The healing properties of fasting is beyond comprehension. What fasting takes away from you physically, it provides in return mentally and spiritually (no, not religiously, I'm not religious). In other words, physically fasting can mentally feed you. Sounds philosophical doesn't it? lol I've actually gotten wiser faster through long-term fasting than I ever did doing intermittent fasting. Your body automatically taps into its genetic code from millions of years ago and you trigger certain survival gene expressions (epigenetics). Fasting also increases your life span, what's better than that?

Have you started? I wondered if there is any preparation you do? Like you up your eating so you have extra in storage? Good grief, it sounds like I think your hibernating but can't think of a better way to put it, lol.
