Addie Aline's Journal, 03 February 2016

I don't have much to say, I just wanted to ask for your good thoughts Friday. I stopped by my doctors office to pick up a prescription and while there ask the girl if my doctor had gotten a cancellation for a physical (I had an appointment for June but was hoping for one sooner) she said yes Friday morning at 9. I took the appointment I was hoping for something in late March so I would have lost a little more weight. I haven't had labs done since I started Atkins so I'm a little worried. As those of you who are any LCHF eating grogram the people around you like to tell you how bad it is for you. I really don't want them to be right because I feel so much better eating this way.

The rest of my day has been normal, I got my shots but still have to go 2 more times to get caught back up to once a month I somehow managed to get behind when I was having all the retina stuff. It wouldn't be so bad but I feel crummy the rest of the day on the day I get them so once a month is enough.

Everyone have a good evening.

I have done Atkins before and lost a lot of weight. If done right you can lose and keep it off. I'm low income right now so that's not an option but if you want someone who understands and will support you, I will.

Jennifer thanks for the support, I'm just a little uneasy about how my labs will turn out. I really want to make LCHF a way of life not just a diet.

I have been LCHF for over a year and had lab work done about 6 months in. All was good and taken off blood pressure medicine. Dr said carry on and I have. I'm due for a physical in the next month or so and can't wait! Good Luck and let us know the results!

I figure this... I am morbidly obese. I was eating a high carb, high fat, high calorie diet. if I lower my carbs and calories can I honestly be doing more damage than I was before (worst case scenario ) ? I don't think so....

Numbers are numbers - how you feel is the MOST important.

If the numbers are good and the patient looks bad there is a problem... If the numbers look bad and the patient looks good leave him alone!

Good luck!

Thanks for all your input you've made good points. I'm sure part of my problem is I don't like going to the doctor, it seems at my age their more likely to find something than not and I need an ekg this time too so I'll pray for the best. I get so tired of hearing people my age saying "at our age we're just waiting to die" I'm not I'm living and like my life so I want to do everything I can to have more of it. Of course I'll meet the Lord when it's my time, but life is good too, even while coping with some medical problems. I'm thankful for every day of it. Life is a wonderful gift.

The results of blood work will depend on when you started your LCHF program. What you should see is lowered Triglycerides and increased HDL. In looking at your diet plan, the reason you are not seeing the results we expect with LCHF is that you're trying to "game" the system. Cut the artificial sweeteners and quit the processed foods. Sugar is addictive, it affects the same pleasure centers of the brain as cocaine. When consuming "sugar-free" products you do not have the carbs, but you are sending the same signals to your brain, which in turn preps the body for fat storage, not fat burning. If you cut artificial sweeteners and processed foods, you will see the results that you've struggled to achieve the past few years. If dinner and daily meal planning is difficult, look to "meal prep" on Sunday and save for the week. Good Luck!

YOU GOT THE RIGHT SPIRIT! !!

Went looking through various sources and narrowed it down to this one: http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/30/7/e59.full . In summary, aspartame produced a similar rise in insulin as a high sugar meal, leading to Insulin resistance and the reason why you continually struggle with weight loss.

It's only bad for you if you eat very low carbs for a long period of time. Short term I feel would be ok. Your brain needs carbs to function and think straight, and low carb will make you feel brain foggy after a while. The cool thing is, if you listen to your body like you seem to be doing, then you will know when you have the right amount of carbs to eat, to feel your best. Everyone is different and what is good for one, may not be good for another. Good luck to you.

8h6 ^ Spot on, " I was eating a high carb, high fat, high calorie diet. if I lower my carbs and calories can I honestly be doing more damage", it's like, damn, I was already eating about as bad as a person can eat! LCHF is the way people ate for thousands of years, processed and refined foods are what's unhealthy.

@Chicken Whisper, you are wrong....period. Don't mean to slam you, however, misinformation is dangerous. Your brain does NOT need Carbohydrates, it needs Glucose to function. If it needed carbohydrate, man would have been extinct years ago. Prior to agriculture man had very limited access to Carbohydrates during Winter...it's why we convert incoming carbohydrates to fat stores during Summer. Without incoming carbs, the body need to maintain its source of glucose for the brain. The process is "Gluconeogenesis" and continues today...58% of the Protein you eat is converted to glucose in the liver. This is more than enough to sustain brain function. If you're on a low-carb diet and are feeling "foggy", chances are you're either in the first few weeks, where your body is busy getting up to speed on using body fat for energy, or you decided to go low-carb...adn low-fat, so now your only source of energy if Protein...big mistake.

Mahjohn, I don't use aspartame as a sweetener and I haven't been on LCHF for several years, I started it the middle of 2015 and was off it for a couple of months for health issues and went back on it in Jan. Before that I was absent from FS for a couple of years and before those years I was on a calorie count. I appreciate your input but at least use the correct facts before you try to correct me. As I've said I'm not running a race with this I'm trying to make it a way of life. Also you have no way of knowing this but I'm on a medication that tends to cause weight gain so I'm working with that battle too and no there isn't something else to change it to.
