Kenysb's Journal, 04 January 2016

So, I learned a very valuable lesson today. It is about one of my guilty pleasures. Since I feel that this information is so important I am sharing it with you all.
I love Fireball whiskey. I don't drink it often, because in the back of my mind I always thought to myself that this has got to have sugar in it, but since most alcohol does not provide nutritional information on the label I decided to be ignorant and just not know the truth.......UNTIL TODAY. I am really trying to make a valid effort in changing my weight for the better. I want to see a change in my outer appearance, so I am now researching what I put into me.

This is what I found out about Fireball whiskey.
Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
(66 proof, 33% ABV, 1.5 oz serving 108 calories and 11 grams of sugar per serving) – Doesn’t sound horrid until you start doing the math: at 1.5 oz, 11 grams of sugar (which is 2.2 teaspoons or .73 Tablespoons), this converts to 0.38 oz. which is a full 25.33% of the shot. That’s right – 1/4 of that shot of Fireball is sugar! At 33% ABV there’s almost as much sugar in each shot of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky as there is alcohol.

I guess this means that I will NO LONGER be enjoying this deliciousness anymore. Or at least until I have reached my goal and decide to have an annual shot, just for me.

Knowledge is power people! Keep yourself informed.

My typical conversion in my head is like this: Beer 10gms carbs per bottle for a light, up to 30gms for a craft beer. Red Wine (4mgs per glass), Liquor (non-flavored), 0gms per glass. Vodka, even flavored Vodka is 0gms, so the drink of choice is...*drumroll*... Vodka Tonic, 0gms of carbs :-)

It's really too hard to lose weight if alcohol is in the diet. Maybe lose the 60 pounds first, add liquor back in when you've hit maintenance.

I hear ya. I love red wine, but I avoid it, because I hardly ever drink just one glass. I had almost 500 calories in wine yesterday! Ugh.

Regardless of the carbs, as Soon alludes to, its the Alcohol, or rather the Ethanol. If you have Ethanol in your system, you burn nothing else until it's gone...no carbs, fats, or protein.

So true....I am a personal trainer and a lover of craft beer. Although I teach 11 classes a week and work out on my own and my diet is spot on...that beer has put an extra 10 pounds on me this past year. I am breaking up with beer for a while.

... aaaaaand it deteriorates muscle dagnabit! I've switched from Corona to Amstel and do my best to only have about three beers a week ... all at the same time of course ;-)
