Hermiones Mom's Journal, 11 December 2015

Not losing right now, and can't tell exactly where I am because I'm in DC at my sister's and her scale weighs quite differently than mine. Plus as is often the case when I travel, my IBS-D turns into IBS-C, so I'm carrying some extra weight so to speak. I think I need to just stay off the scale until next week when I've been home for a few days. Also, there's just no question that I've been eating more since Thanksgiving. I knew it would be a problem going through the holidays -- I'm not doing anything that extremely evil, but am eating out with friends more, having family in, and I just end up eating more. I'm trying to focus on the fact that I am not gorging myself, and I am not eating things that are making me sick... I'm just eating a lot closer to the "break-even" point of calories-to-activity, and I never lose weight when I get above 1475 calories per day, no matter how much activity in which I engage. I need to be patient with myself, and allow the holidays to play themselves out, disciplining myself to my program as much as I can, and keeping my expectations low in terms of weight loss. If I really want this to become my regimen for life, then I have to acknowledge that life includes six weeks each year of socializing, and that socializing presents some challenges. Hope I can move my way through this successfully.

I think you have been doing great. Holidays will be rough for most of us and you are away from home, too. Just be patient and enjoy yourself with your family. I hope your sister is doing okay. Hugs!

"I need to be patient with myself, and allow the holidays to play themselves out, disciplining myself to my program as much as I can, and keeping my expectations low in terms of weight loss." Hermiones Mom, that quote from you journal says it all. We have to live, we have to try and enjoy life and the good events that happen. God knows there are enough bad events we will be faced with along the way. Enjoy the time with your sister, enjoy the holidays, use common sense and restraint as needed. When all is said and done January will be here and there will be ample time for new goals and more stringent ways of living and eating! :)

You are so right jmb3450 -- the time speeds by, and my goal for the holidays was not to totally fall off the wagon and not to gain any appreciable amount of weight. So far, with 4 weeks to go (my family won't go back to France until 1-5), I am doing pretty well. That's all I can ask of myself -- as you put it: common sense and restraint.

Do the best you can do in the next couple weeks - I am shooting to be back at my lowest weight in January sometime - which means I will gain and then come back down again. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks HCB -- wish I really believed the IBS would go away, but even the gastroenterologist acknowledged I'm probably stuck with it.
