Hey low carbers/slow carbers! Have any of you used arrowroot powder as a thickener? I'm talking gravies and stews. It's allowed on my diet, so I am wondering how well it works and if it changes the taste of things. Thank you!

I haven't used Arrowroot for a very long time, I use guar gum or Xanthan... only takes a little bit. I have used the guar for the last 2 thanksgiving dinners, didn't hear any complaints & all the gravy was gone...lol
I also used the creamed or mashed cauliflower for the holidays.... nearly the same as mashed potatoes... you can add anything to them just as you would regular mashed potatoes. Hope this helps....

Well, actually I can have heavy cream, apparently. I've just looked it up. Slow Carb doesn't allow dairy, or I guess most dairy. I've never used cream as a thickener though...
And I love cauliflower mash! Before my diet I made it from time to time, lol.
I have a cheat day a week, and I usually do it on Saturday, but I am going to change to Thursday for next week. :) But I was interested in arrowroot powder for just general use. Stews and meats with gravy are comforting in cold weather, you know?
I haven't seen the other alternatives y'all have mentioned, but I'll need to look those up for more information. Thanks!

Hi Amber, I use grated parmesan cheese to pan liquid to thicken gravy. If I don't have parmesan I will use cream cheese a little at a time with the pan juices.Butter whisked is also a thickner.Hope this helps.
