BulletProof3's Journal, 15 November 2015

Good morning, folks! Happy Sunday! :)

Doing my first planned carb refeed (with bulletproof carbs) and protein fast today. It's going to be hard to do without protein (I LOVE MEAT!), but Lord be with me that I don't lose it from a carb rush and go grab a Sneakers...lol.

BP, can you explain "refeed" to me?? My trainer suggested this and Im unsure about it ...

A refeed is to eat as many "healthy" carbs as you like once a week (or more depending on preference). It refills the muscles, along with other organs, with glycerin which is depleted with exercise during the week. Supposedly, it's a great way to build muscle faster and maintain or drop body fat. Be careful with the carbs you choose. The plan following calls for a simultaneous protein fast (15g or less) which helps deplete old, damaged protein cells that increase the aging process amongst other issues.

Refeeding also supports the thyroid.

On the particular plan that I'm following, there is a list of "good" carbs. The plan also calls for the refeed to start mid-afternoon/evening after doing the normal BP IF.

I have read Dave's book two or three times and have adopted many of his ideas. I have not yet chosen to try the carb load and protein fast - I will be excited to know how it feels and works or you. Good Luck!

Thanks, HCB! To be honest, I took a peek at your diet journal this morning and noticed that it looked really similar to his "diet". I was wondering...lol. I will let you know how it works out. :)

Yes, I do BP coffee, and 16:8 intermittent fasting when it works out, and ketogenic approach with high fat, moderate protein and low carbs. Also a little bit Paleo in that I mostly avoid all grains and dairy at least 90% of the time. I suppose once a week I already have a higher carb day that could count as refeed but I not done the protein fast - so still interested in it. It would a vegetarian day I suppose.

Yes, HCB. Veggies and bulletproof fruits and starches. I never knew that so many vegan foods do have some proteins, even the greens.

What does refeed mean?

Interesting idea. I love healthy carbs like whole grain breads and oatmeal. What does the refeed diet address or treat?

Be interesting to see the results. My "non-bulletproof" re-feed was Friday, I expect the carb weight to start falling back tomorrow. Actually white rice on my sushi was bullet proof but the gluten free pizza crust probably not.

Joanne, look in the comments above. Bupuc, white rice is the only "bulletproof grain". Wheat is especially bad. Google for a summery of the book "Wheatbelly". I'm not trying to tell you what you should or shouldn't eat. Just do a little research on grains, and make your own informed decision. See above comments also, Bopuc. Probably not, yugguth. :)
