Today technically is a rest day, however, most folks aren't expecting torrential downpours of rain over the weekend -- and most folks probably already have a french drain to remove said excess water from the foundation of their home. When it was dried out, we didn't have the funds. Now that we have the funds, the monsoon season has apparently struck. Sigh.

So I kept thinking about how the water just ponds next to our foundation--we live on a hill -- the house is closer to the upper portion, and some water gets a little time in next to the foundation of our house. Not good. (see first paragraph). Got up this morning - t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops and decided I was going to build up dirt closest to the corner of the house and dig a deeper trench where it should drain off -- to the corner....so about 24' of trench digging occurred this morning for about 40-45 minutes. Misting rain already (we'd already had about a week's worth of rain since last Thursday) - and the ground was already muddy and soaked...and at the end of the trench, I decided to try the mallet vs the shovel I'd been using....lost my balance, and fell into the mud. Yep. I concluded my ditch digging, washed myself off with the outside hose and came in for breakfast.

Here's hoping that the trench I dug will help the bulk of the rain water wash towards the lake at the bottom of the hill. When this dries out....we're getting the french drain!
