Back again after being sick AGAIN...actually, I don't know if I should say again-or-still. I have not fully recovered from my bout of diverticulitis/sepsis in early August. Every time I think I'm getting back to normal I get knocked down again. Last week Monday I planned to get back to exercising on my elliptical, but I was up all night with stomach pain and spent most of Monday wondering if I should go to the hospital. I was traveling with GoodMan and I ended up packing a hospital bag just in case. By the end of the day I thought I was doing better and we drove home. On Tuesday I thought I was doing fine and I went grocery shopping. While in the store I had two waves of pain that had me doubled over and afterward I was shaking like a leaf. I called my family doctor and they got me in right away. Now I'm on antibiotics.

While in the hospital in August for diverticulitis/sepsis the doctor there told me I don't have to eliminate nuts and seeds from my diet. He says studies now show it doesn't really matter - some people get inflammation after eating foods with nuts or seeds and some people do not, and conversely some people get inflammation after eliminating all nuts and seeds from their diet. His suggestion is to make sure I'm getting lots of fiber and keeping "regular". On the other hand my family doctor gave the opposite advice. I don't know what to believe, but I will say I didn't eat any nuts and seeds last weekend. We had family over and I ate too many unhealthy things like chips and crackers. I wonder if there is a relationship between stress and diverticulitis. We have some fairly stressful family situations going on and I wonder if that is a factor.

So I am not exercising. I am eating relatively healthy. I don't eat the junk I used to, but I'm not being particularly careful about quantities. I haven't been recording my foods and I only get on this site about a quarter of the time I used to. I really want to get back to the way I was last fall. Tomorrow GoodMan and I plan to go to Art Prize in Grand Rapids. We will walk for about 6 hours of the day so that should provide enough exercise. I'm hoping to get back to my elliptical on Tuesday.

Grammy, maybe try logging and measuring everything and that way you may be able to see a pattern as to how your body reacts. I've had to do that with migraines, asthma, and blood pressure. It has really help me track down triggers.

My dear friend, listen to the doctor that says to stay away from the nuts, seeds, etc.. Have diverticulitis in my family and all of them have to be careful. They do have good times but still have to be cautious all the time. I think you might try to do too much too soon. You let others take care of you for a while. I am doing good after getting out of the hospital with fluid and blood clots in my lungs and legs. That was a real shock. I am a partial caregiver for two daughters and one sister so I deny signs, actually I thought it was pleurisy. Again, God is good!!

Listen to the specialist! I have diverticulosis myself and stress does cause me problems. Yes, stay regular; I find that 8 oz of organic aloe juice a day can help with that as well as keeping my fiber level at 30 per day. The salt in the chips and crackers may have contributed to the inflamation as well. Good luck and ((((((hugs))))))!
