Draglist's Journal, 14 September 2015

Woke at 214.2, up 6.6 pounds after a fun day visiting Annapolis yesterday. Yes, there was ice cream and beer and more. Expected about 2.5 pounds of water gain, but wow. A challenging week to come! UPDATE: Worked half a day and met friends for lunch downtown and started my vacation. Came home at 214.8. Did not do too badly until a late night visit, where we did some snacking. Got more than 10K steps and nearly six miles in today. Burned nearly 3000 calories. Will do more walking tomorrow as we will do the zoo and some other things. More friends will start to arrive tomorrow.

What's coming up that's so challenging? Glad you are having so much fun, probably centered around Jason. Good to have him home safe. How is Em doing?

Enjoy vacation! For me, if I can enjoy a little then I can be strong through the rest.

I wouldn't sweat it, though I did the same thing last week-end camping - probably a pound to a pound and a half real gain - which I can lose in a week if I pay attention.. so, enjoy the break, probably good for your metabolism anyway! Word though on the fitbit - I noticed your calorie burn seemed high at your weight (I'm around the same weight) - fitbits are generally about 15% off according to an Iowa State study - so, might want to compare to BMR calculation.. otherwise, I'm sharing your "week after the weekend" challenge :)

Interesting study that you referenced Roblaw2, and the publication it's in has lots of interesting studies and info. in it. The study mentioned that the Fitbit Ultra, (I think a predecessor of the One?) actually underestimated total energy expenditure to a degree in testing. The Charge HR and Surge track heart rate which one would think would increase accuracy. It would be great if a new study was done that included those devices. But that is almost immaterial, as I've found the most important factor is accurately recording calories eaten...that for me is the deciding factor and the one we have the most control over. The activity trackers are great motivators IMO and help with monitoring physical activity levels. Anyway, not meaning to side track Bill's journal. :)
