floridagal2000's Journal, 05 September 2015

I cannot believe I have lost 40 pounds. Never in my life, and I am 50 years old, have I been successful at losing weight. Why now? Was it the psychological trauma of reaching, 300 pounds? The injury to my leg( still in a wheelchair or using a walker), or just finally maturing enough to make better choices and the desire to lose weight is greater than the desire for immediate gratification? I don't know. I do know I am not perfect with my choices and I indulge when I want but am more aware of balance through the the meal, the day and the week.

Thanks for your support folks. I appreciate it.

Lorie

Thank you all for your support. I really appreciate it. Its hard to dream that it might be real after all! MallowPuff: really and truly I have no insider secrets. I am not perfect nor do I stay on my food plan perfectly. But this is how I have approached these last 3 months. I started with VERY TINY GOALS. For the first few weeks, I had two goals: eat breakfast everyday and get 8 hours of sleep every night. I still struggle with the sleep. Then after a week of realizing I can eat breakfast and get adequate sleep, I decided to add "no sugary drinks" to my list of goals. So I did 3 weeks of that and that seemed easy so I added to my list of goals: staying away from refined carbs, that meant bread, pasta, most desserts. Into the second month I realized that I simply could not follow my goals and eat the calorie count recommended by FS, it was too much food. So I have slowly lessened my calories from 2,000 to a target of 1200 - 1500 each day. I try to get over 80 grams of protein. Sometimes, I eat more calories, sometimes I eat less. I also only weigh once a week. and yes I do have the occasional cookie. But its just one and not 21. (yeah, I could eat 21 cookies in a heartbeat!) Please don't judge yourself by what I have done. I weighed 300 pounds when I started. It will come off of me more quickly than a person who has 20 pounds to lose but I am confident that over time you will be successful. Love yourself enough to be as gentle and supportive of your journey as you have been of mine. You can do it!!
