I'm disappointed: I ate a big helping of asparagus last night -- the first since I went on FODMAP full time -- and it really didn't agree with me. I mean, I'm not in terrible discomfort, but I have nasty gas and other symptoms. Really, I am so disappointed because I love asparagus and I was really hoping that it would turn out that this was something I could add back in. I'm still going to try it again in a few weeks -- but making it myself. Last night I ate it at a family birthday party, and it's possible that there was seasoning in the salmon and beef tenderloin that bothered me. I didn't want to ask my cousin if she had used soy sauce in the marinade for the beef because I was already being kind of a pain about the food. So I just shut up and ate it. It was absolutely delicious, but it is possible that the glaze on it was not good for me. It's really, really hard...

They may have used garlic on the asparagus or something...hang in there - you will figure out how to make things work. I know that is a hard program to follow FODMAP but you are doing well 99% of the time!

Thanks for the support and the reminder HCB. It's true -- I AM doing OK 99% of the time, so I have to focus on that. and also -- I'm doing really well with making my own food, including delicious ice cream, so when I start to freak out, I can make something at home and get past whatever craving I'm having. When I got back from Europe, I made lactose free egg white cheese omelets every day for four days because I missed cheese so much. Right now,I'm having a pasta craving, and luckily, the buckwheat past I ordered showed up yesterday, so tomorrow I am definitely making pasta for dinner.

Too much fiber all at once. If you don't normally eat that much, you have to build up and add more slowly. Some people are more sensitive to fiber than others. You can build tolerance. Don't eat any fiber one bars, lol! Talk about gas pains.

Suzi161 -- I have ALWAYS been sensitive to high-fiber foods. Years ago in college, I used to diet by drinking Carnation Slender for 2 meals a day. Then they reinvented it with "added fiber" and it about killed me and I had to stop drinking it. I never eat anything that specifically says "high" or "added" fiber. I seem to do OK at about 18 grams of fiber per day. I've been doing some more reading on FODMAP, and one thing I discovered is that some lists have almonds as a "no" and other lists have almonds as a "measured portion" food. Anyway, I think maybe I made myself sick with the almond flour brownies I made on Thursday. I only had two pieces, but they had both almond flour and cocoa powder, and I should have known better than to combine the two. It's a big learning curve!
