Good morning,
I don't actually believe the scale. I had knee surgery this past Monday and am wearing a full leg brace trying not to put much weight on my right leg. So when I am given the green light to put any weight on that leg i think I will get a more accurate read. But until that day, I will keep trying to eat sensibly and keep weighing in. Eventually I will know, right?

You should really watch your carb intake. I tore my acl and then had surgery 5 months later. I followed atkins and managed to lose 25 lbs while hobbling around for months. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I could not only manage my weight, but lose weight without exercising. You have to be dedicated but it was worth it.

Thank you ladies! Yes I am being very stern about doing my pt and I should definitely keep the water going and it's probably time to ice again. Thanks for your encouragement. The day after surgery was difficult and being told I can't put weight on it for 6 weeks has been disheartening. I'm a teacher and school starts in another two weeks. But I am trying to get to the point where I can make it in a wheelchair and walker.

Summerbreesy, how low did you go with your carbs? This week, since I am literally in bed, my carbs have been greater than before since I am relying on other people to bring me food. Yogurt/cheese and crackers have been quick small meals easy for my teenagers to bring to me and easy with the pain meds. I am trying not to overwhelm myself with stuff to count. Trying to stay at 70-100 gym protein and 1200-1500 calories. There is so much variety in what seems to be low carb.

The entire time! I followed the atkins induction phase. I knew that I couldn't work out so, I had to figure out a way to prevent my body from storing fat. I knew that the hormone insulin tells the body to store fat, so I needed a way to keep my insulin levels low. Following a low glycemic diet was the plan. I tried to stay under 20 grams of carbs per day, but I averaged about 40. Bacon, eggs, and avocado for breakfast. Salad for lunch. Veggies, avocado, meat for dinner. I didn't track calories, I just focused on cutting the carbs. Whe I look through my old journal, I was eating 1000-1300 calories per day. That sounds like a little but once my body was burning stored fat for fuel, my appetite decreased significantly. I ate to make sure I did not trigger a huge insulin response during any meal, which means healthy fat, moderate protein, and low carb veggies. The point is to eat in a manner that doesn't tell your body to store fat. Once I figured that out, I didn't need to exercise to keep from getting fat, I used my diet to control and lose weight. Unfortunately, I stopped following my diet and did not introduce exercise to offset the increased glucose consumption and BOOM! The weight came right back. When I was trapped in the house, I spent months researching ketogenic diets, reading journal articles about endocrinology and biochemistry. I was completely fascinated by it because I had alway followed traditional advice about diet and exercise and it never worked. I simply switched my macro nutrients around and my life completely changed. It takes dedication, I'm not gonna lie, but so does every other weight loss plan. This is a whole hellof a lot easier than do insane work outs and starving yourself. You can't go out, eat, and drink anyways, this is a perfect opportunity to start!

Thanks for the input summerbreesy. I have been watching other people keto plan to see how it works for them. My husband is diabetic and had some uncontrolled numbers. What he did sounds like what you are describing. Meat, and salad veggies. He has lost 40 lbs since he started in May and his bs numbers are beautiful. Nice and stable.i am going to keep doing what I've been doing but keep an eye on the carbs. Can't see me going to 20 but could certainly get them lower than I have.
