Not much but I will take it.

So, Yesterday was a frustrating day on many levels. It was chilly, low 60s here, and drizzling or raining all day. And I had to paint our exterior door with oil based paint. It is a metal door so we wanted rustoleum on it. I wanted dark blue paint or bright red, ROn (hubby) nixed the red unless it was dark. Can I say I found nothing I liked for the application. I wanted spray but nooooo black, white or grey were the choices. Or neons, chalk board, metallics - things I just did not want on the door. I settled on Royal blue and only came high gloss - not happy. First coat looked like faded denim... ok maybe this will be ok... ready for the 2nd coat it was still sticky after 3 hrs not even dry to the touch so I still tried to put it on and it went OK. But knew it would need a third. woke in middle of the night and it was still tacky. So Upset finding that I struggled to get back to sleep. This am dry to the touch and in the light of day I HATE THE COLOR. I am like ready to cry over this door. The hurry was contractor decided to do the door today. I am hoping because it is still raining it gets delayed. I need to make considerations on how I want to proceed with this. I mean right now I want to sand it down and start over. Hubby says just put on the third coat but have to see what the contractor will decide to do today. The floor also needs self leveler applied but not sure if he can do that with the moisture. Contractor coming late but I double that will allow drying time. *sighs*

I am hoping the templating team is able to do some of the requests I have on the counters without making me be charged more. Have a couple places that would be sharp corners and do not want that. I need something good today.. they are due in 30 mins.

My son locked the cat in his bedroom with no food, water or litterbox over night and I have been playing clean up because she pooed and peed on his couch and MTG cards/yu-gi-oh cards and so I have also have a metldown on my hand. I am makig him clean it as he trapped the cat. I need strength to get through this day. He will think twice about trapping her again.

Gonna needs these.

My wife often finds that the color for something she picked out doesn't look like she'd hoped once it's painted on, very frustrating. I tell her our house keeps getting smaller and smaller one coat of paint at a time. :) Sorry...the good news if it can be called that once you find the right color it'll cover up the other stuff. Hope the weather turns around for you and is better suited to the jobs you're trying to complete....sending yous some good vibes. :)

Rustolem comes in lots of colors, maybe you can find it at a Lowes, Wal Mart or HomeDepot when you go to a larger city and re-do it. Another thought is to paint over the rustoleum since the door is now protected. Sorry you don't have a color you like. The cool wet weather is not nice for getting paint to dry.

I really admire how your days are alwyas FRUITFUL. Know exactly what you mean about painting and colours. :( Used to happen to me a lot! This city girl has found a colour consultant at Benjamin Moore who has saved me hours of time and tears by coming to my house, and in under one hour, choosing colours from her swatches with her input. But fully realize your situation is more complicated- limited paint choices, etc. Hang in there!! You will find something that you like. :) And yah you for teachng your son a huge lesson! No doubt he will grow up to have his mom's work ethic, and his future wife/kids will be so blessed!! Already a very fruitful day!! Hugggs!!

I can understand your frustration of painting a door I did that over the winter, a year ago and it doesn't look right and have yet to repaint it. I even took color samples home and looked at it for a month's. WFN has some great idea's about deciding on paint. In time it will all work out. And at least you don't have to clean up after your son's cat and I bet next time he won't do that again. ;) One can only hope.

i have looked online at SW paint colors and i have to put oil over oil based so they have a naval blue I really like. Rich deep blue. I think I am sending my hubby off to get some for me later. Hope it comes in qts because I do not even need close to a gallon for a door even if I did both sides. Counter guys were here with their laser template system and got is all measured. I hope I am not going to hate having 2 in rounded corners over their usual 1 in rounded. but I do not want small ones or big ppl hurt off the many corners we have esp since they stick out in places. God knows I do not need my counters to assault someone. Contractor is tearing abort the outside of the house around the door to get to the rot and it is a lot. my yard is a mess and means of egress is down to going through the business entrance. We are closed today so thank goodness for small favors. I need them.

I am normally good with colors I am a graphic designer so i am good at picking them but everything was sold out everywhere I went - 4 stores yesterday. So I settled. Mistake. I should have just gone to SW in the first place. now we are going to spend more money in a budget that is dwindling. NOt happy about that either. SMH

I have to do all my trim and the new fake chimney, it's all going to be white, very simple. I may eventually change my mind about the door once I build a small front deck sometime in the future. It has to stop raining for long enough, this may be my week off in September project the way this summer is going. LOL OH YUCK about the cat. Hope you get the smell out. Vinegar is often a good solution or you can get an enzyme in pet depts. that eats the odor causing bacteria, WalMart has it pretty cheap.

Did not realize you are a graphic designer, handy skill in your reno!! I'm a quilter so have developed a sense of color, it's fun seeing how some unexpected colors come together and look amazing even if it's not such a usual combo. I'm loving hot lime green accents with my dark red in my kitchen, it really pops!

No break on the humidity this week unfortunately, I am putting off some painting until the weekend. I want a fire engine red front door but I got vetoed lol. I am so tired of white and black everything. i still need to cut a pile of trim boards and stain them if it stays dry long enough. I have the wood now to build the vanity for the bathroom too, but I am still waiting on a plumber buddy of mine to swap out the mess for that new flexible hose stuff. Those shark bites look easy enough but anything that has the potential to,leak scares me lol. I swear I am not starting another project until my bathroom is done!

I admire you taking on a project like that ..... Too many decisions to make, at least for me. I like your second quote a lot ..... "Be strong, make them wonder why you are smiling." I so enjoy being with people who savor the surprise of every day.

Jeri, I am using vinegar... keep it around for when towels and bathing suits stay wet too long. ANd I spot treated the cushions wiped them with vinegar and rinsed as best as I could the things that can go into the wash he is doing. Some things i can trust a 12 yr old with others not so much.

I love my project I hate the complications like yesterday... I should have just told my hubby to suck it up and deal and gone to SW in the first place. Back off to sand/steelwool the gloss off the paint so i can paint it again later.

Trapping cats is not fun. Sorry to hear about the mess she made. Love the quotes. I must really miss Jonathan's posts because I keep seeing pics of lions and they make me think of him!

Vinegar is terrific stuff. I use it instead of fabric softener in downey balls in the wash. I also clean with it a lot, mix it with ammonia, and alcohol for window cleaner. OOps meant to get another gallon today.

Nichol, I'm with you an the humidity, it's not nice here either. I'm sitting here waiting for breathing meds to work after running from one store to another in a vehicle with no ac. 95 degrees and I think the humidity is about the same.
