heidij123's Journal, 22 July 2015

A month has gone by since I joined FS, so I thought it was time for a review. Very pleased with progress so far. I actually started trying to lose weight back at the start of May, when I found I couldn't fit into most of my summer clothes, and had also started noticing some difficulties in tying shoe-laces due to stomach getting in the way. I've never been like that before! Hadn't realised how much weight I had put on over the winter. Was then about 83 kilos, so call it 182 pounds, heaviest I have ever been in my 61 years.

I looked at some of my older friends. There was M, aged 75, overweight and has difficulty walking very far. And then there was D, aged 82, and B aged 90, both very slim and very fit and agile. And I thought, the way I am going, I will end up like M. Wouldn't I rather be like D and B?

So I stopped eating chocolate and cut down on a few other things, and lost a few pounds. And then nothing happened, so I realised I had to get serious and make a proper effort to lose.

I found the mobile app for FS, loaded that up, and a day or so realised that there was a website too. Very delighted with the way it's so easy to record intake, and the way it calculates total calories and gives you a breakdown of carbs, fat, sugar, fibre etc. That makes life a lot easier!

Also very delighted that there is such a great community here, so much support, information and advice! I find I am continually inspired by seeing how others are doing, not to mention feeling that my life is enriched by hearing other's accounts of their days, triumphs and setbacks, good times and even sometimes the bad ones, which remind me how very lucky I am. Thanks all for sharing.

Anyway the bottom line is, I'm now down to about 172 pounds, and am starting to fit back into clothes I couldn't have worn a few weeks ago. Shoe-laces are no problem. Thanks to doing some challenges, I've been out walking nearly every day for a month, can get up hills with out needing to be pulled, and can walk for up to two hours on occasion. My very fit hubby, who wouldn't walk with me before, has even suggested some walks we could do together!

More thanks then to those who have set up challenges, and provided extra motivation to get off my backside!

That's about it for now. Weight loss seems to have slowed this week, but I think just due to a slight loss of focus over the last few days. All in all very pleased with how I am doing, and feeling confident that I can reach my goal weight - maybe not quite as quickly as I'd like, but I may have to learn to be patient and persevering 😉
