FatBoy10's Journal, 16 July 2015

I saw my Doctor in late June. I weighed 300.7 and she diagnosed me with diabetes, which was scary. My doctor doesn't like Atkins because of "too much meat". I am going through stages of grief in response to her diagnosis: anger, resentment, denial, etc. I quit Atkins and now I am just trying to eat less. I have been able to lose weight on diets in the past, but only temporarily, so I feel kind of doomed.
288.0 lb Lost so far: 5.0 lb.    Still to go: 48.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

That's funny, too much meat, as if there is such a thing. I love the meats, cow meat, pig meat, meat from fowls, even sea meats. I too have had the yo-yo effect of diets. I did weight watchers, then atkins, lost a lot but it was unrealistic for me, so I gained it all back. The trick is, find a diet that, to you, isn't a diet. I started on flabs2abs which kick started my will power (40 lbs in less than 60 days) but it started to become unrealistic fast. Having to eat every three hours became more of a burden than a help so three days ago after a lot of research (originally researched the Fast Mimicking Diet and ran across this) I found the intermittent diet. this is one I think I can stay on since you don't have to count calories, you eat what you normally do (although if you're a junk food junkie, that has to change for unprocessed, low to no added sugar, salt, etc., aka, healthier) within an certain time frame. Even after three days waiting until my eating time, usually around 12-1p I am having no problem waiting, even though I wake up early, around 7a and go work out. I still count calories though, as it is a more of a habit than a necessity but I find myself actually eating less in that window. You do have to make sure you have nutrient rich foods or take a supplement. I lost 40 lbs on f2a, then went to IF and initially gained a couple pounds then quickly lost that and am down an additional 2 lbs in two days. I suggest you research it and see if it is something that could help you.

Correction: The intermittent fasting diet, not to be confused with the 5:2 diet

There are some great books, sites, magazines with recipes and tips for diabetics. Once you get past the shock, you can take charge of your life and health. Be proactive! You can make changes to be healthy and live a long active life.
