I recently joined LA Weight Loss, even though I've been perfectly happy doing the SBD. My husband needs to lose a significant amount of weight, and needs the structure of a program like Weight Watchers or LA. I'm motivated enough on my own, but it's really going to help Jeremy for me to eating and doing the same thing he is. LA guarantees your weight loss and has nutritionists make out the menus, blah blah blah...... I'm not so crazy about it. After checking labels for sugar and saturated fat and whole grain for so long, it almost offends me when LA recipes call for all-purpose flour. Having to go in and weigh weekly is helpful, but it is SO STRUCTURED. I don't like that. I'm going to do this with and for my husband, but I'm going to incorporate a lot of SBD principles into it that they don't call for. After eating LA this week, I really miss the freedom of the Beach. I'm still considering myself a South Beacher, so don't you guys kick me out of the club!! :-)

No no, you're still one of us. Since you have to do LA for a while I think it's important to be positive about that experience. You still may be able to learn some new tricks that are not part of SB. Switch whole wheat flour for the all purpose. I bet it won't make too much of a difference. Give LA your best shot and you'll still be a SBer at heart but you may even lose more weight than you thought. Who knows until you try. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress. You're not a traitor! The more education we all have the better!

I did LA Weightloss years ago and liked it...very expensive though. I ended up paying $242 with all the x-tra supplements for a "Lose 10 pounds in a month" package. After spending that much I knew I would lose it... from not having any money for food!! LOL!! I liked the LA Lite bars since I'm a chocolate freak. Chocolate Mint was my favorite. It worked but I like South Beach much more. LA is good for someone that has to have structure. The most important thing it taught me was to not skip meals and have a snack in between. Keep us updated on the progress.

I did LAWL and liked it too. But, I hated having to go into the "clinic" three times a week to weigh in. And, their guarantee is only good if you go that often and follow their diet to a "T". I also felt like some of the counselors were there just to sale their LA Lites and make a commission.

It's good that you're doing it together, that creates a much more supportive environment for both of you. Not to mention, it emphasizes the fact that you're doing it not just for the weight but so you can be happier and healthier.
