jmb3450's Journal, 17 June 2015

I seem to be hanging around the 204lb mark now for the 3rd week. Looking at my weight chart I see a pattern where I'll go down a few pounds then stall for a while, then go down a few more, etc. So maybe that's how my body does it. Last week I over did it on the carbs a bit but not this week and I've stepped up my exercise but still no real budge on the scale. However, I "feel" different, better. I think my clothes are fitting looser and I think my pudgy spots have a little less pudge to them. So to hell with the scale! :)

The next few days will be challenging, we leave early tomorrow morning and will drive about 6 hours to the Cleveland, OH zoo...meeting my wife's son/wife/kids to spend the day there and then staying in a hotel. We'll go swimming with the kids in the hotel pool next day then pack up and drive to Buffalo NY. Birthday party for one of our grandsons Saturday, driving back on Sunday, will be staying in hotels and eating out or at the mercy of whoever's fixing food where we're at. I'll bring some stuff along and will do the best I can. At least with the fitbit I can set some step/distance goals and make sure I meet them to keep my calorie burn up.

Speaking of fitbit, anybody who has one and wants to be fitbit buddies send me a private message, include your email address or if you're not comfortable with that tell me and I'll send you mine. It'd be nice to have some buddies there too. Right now other than my wife my only buddy is my SIL - we're in a fierce competition to see who can out-step who, lol.

plateus are hard but they normally end with a "woosh" and mean you're losing inches instead of pounds! <3

I'm waiting for my daughter to find the one she bought me. It's in a black hole somewhere. If it reappears I'm in.

A drop then a stall may be normal - The body is adjusting to the way you are treating it - with the cleaner foods and different activities. You just might be doing it right?

have a great trip Jim. you are doing great. and yes, weight loss is rarely linear - comes in fits and spurts like your drop and stall, drop and stall pattern.

Glen - regarding patterns. I explained to a coworker the other day that most of us eat the same 20 meals over and over. It's routine. A lot of people think eating less is the key (which it is) but I'm wondering if a better approach might be to get 20 new or altered meals in line and then try sticking with those. Wonder why I haven't thought of this before.

ive been fighting the scale for months, but im not too sure on it, as I stay the same and I don't exercise, and I seem to be thinning a bit

Gs. The learner you get the tougher it is to cut more. I'm kind of going in circles myself. Last year, when I was leaning out for summer, I found it extremely difficult to get it right. I may do a 2 day protein shake diet. Nothing works fast, but everything seems to work a little.

Sounds like you got a plan that will work for you :D Your progress this far is good even if you do bounce around a bit. Nothing will go perfect when we are imperfect & living in an imperfect world. Have fun & enjoy whatever it is you do....with the family, with weight management. You 'll reach your goals! :D

If there's continental breakfast at the hotel, just have a banana and the coffee and skip the carby pastries. Try eating only half of what is plated in front of you (no doggy bags, ever). And no desserts or snacks (power bars are just nightmares of extra fat & calories). Should keep the damage to a minimum while still enjoying vacation food.
