I think I'm hard-headed. It took me 5 stents in my heart, being on the verge of becoming diabetic, and struggling to walk after back injuries to finally "get it."

Sometimes that moment just jumps out at you :) I am putting a 25lb kettle bell in the backpack today for my lunchtime walk.

WOW RF...what a thought provoking question!!!! MIne was when very good friend who struggled with diabetes from his late teens AND NEVER had a weight problem AND ALWAYS took his meds died one week before his 58th birthday...AND I was ONE MONTH from MY 58th birthday and HAD huge weight issues but was blessed that I still had never fought diabetes OR heart trouble...BUT I knew it was coming UNLESS I changed...That was the "wake up" call I answered!!! :)

I too have some ugly pictures that I keep as inspiration. My ah-ha moment was in 2012. The girls at work have been real supporters of my efforts and the type II diabetes diagnosis in 2013 was a real motivator. I cannot for anything get the triglycerides under 400 so I am a mess.

My ah-ha moment was seeing my youngest sister after one yr not seeing her and she lost over 80 lbs. five yrs ago I was always the skinniest one in the family but have gained a lot of weight the past five yrs . I need to give her competition lol Not only for me to loose weight but to help her to maintain :)

I got on the scale the morning after the Super Bowl this year and I was appalled at the number I saw there. I determined right then that I was going to get back down to where I wanted to be and not continue to let my weight creep ever higher.

When my ortho doc told me to lose 50 pounds and start strength training and walking more or I would have a knee replacement within 2 years.

The biggest AH-HA moment was a photo of myself when I thought the outfit was camouflaging my fat...ah NOT - it was terrible!
|
Mine was also a photo of myself at the beach, going to keep that photo for the before pic.

I'm gonna go with chest discomfort after walking 2 flights of stairs Jan 2014. 65+ lbs lost and 16 months later, chest discomfort resurfaced, resulting in 5 heart bypasses. Ah Ha... I need to tighten up more!
