Panigale1199's Journal, 27 May 2015

Last 4-5 months I have been doing MMA 3 hours on Tuesday and MMA 3 hours on Thursday. I do workouts in between as well and not noticing much changes. Adding carbs has helped me get better sleep now and have energy to actually do my workouts. But I feel like I am missing something. I am not losing much fat. I am 25% body fat and around 112lbs-114lbs muscle. I have room to lose fat. But nothing is really budging. I have been hovering around 151-153lbs the past few months. I am getting a little depressed and desperate. I eat healthy 80% of the time. I have been cheating recently the last 2 weeks due to a bridal shower one week, memorial day and graduation parties last week, this weekend is my dads bday and the weekend after that is a wedding!!!!!! I just cant wait till all these events just end so I wont have cake shoved in my face anymore. But besides the weekend treats (also note I do not just binge on these foods, I treat myself and stop when I am full) I eat healthy 80-85% of the week. I am just getting frustrated. I guess I need to only have a cheat meal one day a week and make sure it doesn't carry over into sunday. But I decided to contact my BF's good friend who is a personal trainer. He trains many of his friends and this guy is always in amazing shape so he is obviously doing something right. So I am seeing him today I basically told him I know how to workout but I want more direction on how to get the goal body I want as well as help tweak my diet to get these results. It seems I have been gaining muscle but have minor loss in fat. So hopefully having a fresh pair of eyes see my diet and workout plan can help me finally do the tweaking I need. also..this may be some TMI but I plan to come off hormonal BC pills. I feel that ever since I started taking them I was never able to stay slim. Ever since I started them I have been gaining weight ever since. So I am seeing my doctor in 3 weeks and plan to consider an IUD instead. I cant imagine all the hormones in those BC pills are even okay in the long run anyway.

The Mirena(IUD) has a small amount of hormones which will usually slow down/stop periods but not affect your entire body. The copper one has no hormones. On a side note some doctors prescribe low dose BC pills to help with menopause symptoms lol. Sometimes it is just a matter of dosage or which pill you are taking. Yes I know...six kids.. trust me I have tried every method of birth control available to women lol.

Good luck with getting to your goal weight. I agree that the cheat meal should only be once a week.

Hy! Have you tried to add more protein to the diet?! From what I remember from going to the gym, when trying to loose fat and gain muscles... the golden rule was looots of protein, many-many meals/day, small ones, but... like... one meal every 2-3 hours, max., and a lot of water too, still-tap water or something like this. From what I know... while loosing weight and doing sports for muscle gain... unless you diet AND add a lot of protein to the diet... it's not going to show that much. Also, for muscle gain, you need weights and for loosing fat... cardio, again... from what I know from "my trainer" (he is the owner of the gym where I go, when I go, lol!, and he used to be a professional body-builder). As for the pill... I have never tried one, but if it's making you gain weight (like it happens often)... unless your supreme goal in life is to be some sort of an obese childless woman... I'd say to change to something else, really! Gaining weight is a side effect of the hormones in the pill and... if it's having one side-effect for you... I doubt it's doing you body much good anyway, even if other side-effects are not showing (... until now). :) Good luck and best wishes! Can't wait to hear how is going! :)

I agree that BC can contribute to weight. When I got engaged, I was 125lbs. Since we were both virgins and I didn't want to end up getting pregnant on our honeymoon lol, I got on BC for the first time about 3 months before our wedding so it could have time to take effect before our honeymoon. Within the first year of our marriage, I gained 20lbs!! Thankfully, weight watchers helped me lose those 20lbs in 2 months but that was back in 05 when you couldn't eat anything and I didn't work out either. I probably ate a max of 1000 calories. About 5 months after I lost the weight, we got pregnant. After he was born, I was on the mini pill until he was 9 months old and then I got on the regular pill. I struggled with weight loss after that. I hovered around 160 for over a year and it took me 11 months to lose 19lbs and then I got pregnant with our 2nd child. After she was born, I took the mini pill until she was a year old. During that time I hovered around 160 for a while and then decided to get the Mirena because i was still breastfeeding. I got down to 150 and 4 months after it was put in, it got dislodged and hurt like HECK! Had to have dr remove it and since our daughter was 18 months at the time, we just decided to start trying for #3. Got pregnant 2.5 weeks after the Mirena was removed and then I miscarried at 5 weeks. Thankfully, I got pregnant again 4 weeks later and he's a happy, healthy 2.5 yr old. After he was born, I had my tubes tied because he was my 3rd c-section. SOOO thankful for no more BC, no more hormones!!! Still ovulate and get my period, though lol. But the egg can't get anywhere lol. Weight loss hasn't been easy since he's been born because until this month, I wasn't really doing it right lol. Once I figured out my numbers and what I NEED to consume based on my activity level, the weight has been coming off soooo easily!

And FYI, when I went in for the IUD, I asked about the cooper one (paragard) because I didn't want the hormones either, but my dr advised against it because it causes HORRIBLE cramps and LOTS of bleeding. She said that most of her patients that got the Paragard, came back and had the Mirena put in. The Mirena was breastfeeding friendly so we went with that. Cramps weren't bad at all and the bleeding wasn't heavy either. But I only had it in for 4 months lol. And then when it was removed, I went through what's called "the Mirena Crash". Headaches, bloating, depression, anxiety, anger, cramps, pregnancy symptoms, etc. HORRIBLE!!!! IF you plan on having more kids, I'd try to stay away from an IUD. Maybe look into a diaphragm or condoms with spermicide. That's the route I would have taken if we still planned on having more kids.

I have had two Mirenas, I was also steered away from the copper ones because of chance of increased cramps and bleeding.

Hey girl - you have been working hard. I know it. I understand the increased carbs on workout days - but we also know eating healthy dietary fats helps the body body burn more fat if you moderate the protein and lower the carbs. Look at your fats and sugars maybe...Just a thought...

Love how you think things through. Bet you'll really enjoy the personal trainer. As for the IUD - no advice because I'm way past that. There are advantages to being old :)

wow thanks for all the comments!!! I have been back and fourth about the BC, and for years I just couldn't understand why I was gaining weight but I always ate heathly!! I have friends (not on BC) that are thin and eat whatever the hell they want and drink every weekend...yet I am strict on my diet 85% of the time and I cant lose a freaking POUND!!!!!! So I might try the Mirena, I read many girls lost weight switching to a low hormone BC. I never actualy thought about my BC being an issue until recently when I started to do more research. As for the kids thing, I am not planning on having any, if I do it wont be for another 10 years lol. So I am trying to find something long term. I will talk to my doctor in two weeks about the Mirena..but I am just a bit afraid of it popping out...eek! I read after each period you need to check for the string. But I rather try it out than not do it because I am scared of the risks. I really do want to get off the BC pill I am on because I really can't figure out what else has been causing me to gain weight and make it so hard for me to lose so matter how I tweak my diet. Also on my carb days I eat about 150g of carbs in potatoes, some rice, fruits and veggies. I find ythe extra carbs has helped me tremendously survive my 3 hour MMA sessions twice a week. Btw I met with my trainer last night. He is awesome and full of knowledge. He even said to add more protein as well. So I will start trying to eat more protein and see how that helps too. THanks again for all the replies, it has been so frustrating the last year =( I was 125lbs as well before going on BC and then now 5 years later I am 155 and cannot seem to get past 151....

I was having a really hard time dropping these 10lbs until recently. Apparently, I wasn't eating enough. You have to make sure you eat enough. I found out about TDEE, which is total daily energy expenditure. This is what your body burns in a 24 hr period between resting AND exercising. If you don't know your TDEE it's going to be very hard to drop the weight. I was going on 6 weeks with NOTHING happening. And then I found out about TDEE. There are a few calculators on line that you can use to figure yours out if you don't already know. THen you take that number, subtract 10-20% (depending on how much you want to lose) and that's the amt of calories you need. I started this journey at 152.2 lbs on April 1. I was working out 5x a week and on May 2nd, I was fluctuating between 150-152lbs! I was eating a MAX of 1400 calories. NOT ENOUGH! My metabolism slowed down and was preventing me from losing. ONce I found out about my TDEE, I realized I should be eating 1600-1700 calories because of the amt of exercise I was getting. So...I upped my intake and BAM in less than 6 days I dropped almost 2lbs. Almost 2 weeks into using my TDEE, I have lost 3lbs already and 2" in my waist, 1.5 in my hips, and 1 in my butt. I'm supposed to measure again this weekend (I measure every 2 weeks) and I hope to see more inches gone!
