Beware: This entry is not for everyone.
First I just want to say what a workout this morning Max heart 195 minimum 150 average 160.
Okay so you don’t want to be fat anymore then do these things: Stop looking in the mirror and saying damn I look fat, I'm discussing, I need to lose weight. Nothing like sabotaging yourself. Next you don’t need tons of gadgets to workout you don't need a gym membership, all you need is you and for you to show up every day and push yourself. Find out what motivates you, find out what works for you and most of all stick with it. I am not trying to toot my horn on here that should go to those folks on FS who have lost over 100 lbs. and are still keeping it off, think about it that is a whole person they lost. Finds what motivates you, don’t whine about gaining a pound here or there, you know what you need to do to get rid of it. Ladies I'm sorry I have never experienced TOM and don't want to, I know you bloat, retain water, have cramps headaches and use that as an excuse not to workout. I have a bad back, fake knee, screws in my foot migraines on occasion and I work through them. People quit feeling sorry for yourself. Sometime in life you need to suck it up and get on with life, if losing weight were easy we wouldn’t need FS now would we. I do appreciate the support I get on here very much so and there are some awesome people on here. Bottom line is to many people quit to soon, meaning if you don’t think you can do ten push-ups you probably can't if you squeeze ten out try for eleven or twelve you have to keep pushing yourself, trainers may be great but they are getting paid to tell you what to do and how to work out if you don’t lose weight they still get paid and you are bummed. Aging this leads back to YOU or in my case ME. You can change and change is hard. I am almost 51 and think I look damn good, and I would say I am in better shape than most 18 to 30 year old men, plus I smoke, I know bad habit but it is one of my last vices that I am not ready to give up yet. Thanks for reading if you got this far, and have a WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY.

Love this - anything worthwhile is difficult! People want the miracle change. It takes dedication, determination and discipline! It means a commitment to better health. It means dragging my aging body to the gym when I would rather stay in bed, avoiding the purchase of foods not on my plan, and making good choices when eating away from home. It means educating ourselves about nutrition and developing the best plan for us - and then following the plan. And, yes, fluctuations on the scale are the norm - push through and do the best you can on any given day, OK - My RANT is now over. ROCK ON!

It was all I could do to get out of bed this morning for my first walk of the day. My puppy actually let me sleep until 5 which is when I get up anyway. I didn't get to walk last night because it was raining. Shocking I know, as you need to have an ARK to travel in Texas right now. BUT...I did it. AND increased my speed, which was great. Glad I did. But I have definitely been one of the people that give up too soon. I refuse to do that this time. It ain't gonna happen! I'm a Taurus, so I'm pretty stinkin' stubborn and if I put my mind to it, I can definitely reach my goal weight and keep it off. I got this! Oh, and I didn't lose one stinking pound in the last two days, but what are you gonna do? Have a great day!

Excellent journal, telling it like it is. Ultimately it's up to us...we can all come up with excuses and reasons for not achieving our goals. We have to want it enough to put out the effort to overcome those excuses and reasons. Thanks for the pep talk and motivation! Have a great day.

Amazing Journal entry! Its very refreshing because I do exactly that... I stare at the mirror and I tell myself how ugly and fat I am. (so horrible I know) I have gotten a lot better though. I agree you don't need a membership to change however I find myself getting bored with just running and doing pushups which is why I found a sport to participate in after work (MMA) which has been amazing for me. I havn't missed a class since I started. I sometimes think that when you have a hobbie that requires physical activity you are more likely to stick with it. I am actually starting with a personal trainer today but it happens to be my boyfriends close friend who I know well. But everyone is different. But it all comes back to us. I can use a personal trainer and make minor changes if I don't change my diet. diet is 85%.and only we can change that...not a gym membership, trainer or a fitbit watch. anyway amazing post and a good motivator for me!!!!! Next time I look in the mirror I need to tell myself I am awesome and that my body is a mean machine. and eventually I will get to my goal

Interesting I thought perhaps some folks would be offended. But, I am a very straight forward person and do thank you all for your support. If you need to go to the gym and that works for you by all means do it. For me the key was accepting me for me. And don't you just feel better on those days when it is like I really don't want to do this and then when you are finished your like I am so glad I just got it over with.

People fight giving up their bad habits and will make up a lot of excuses to keep them. And then they cry about how they can't seem to lose weight. Everyone SHOULD cut their portion sizes in half, and they'd lose weight quickly even without exercise. I get excited when people see the scale rewarding them for their discipline. These are new habits and they work.

Great Words Rockies Fan! We have a saying in project management: BAD NEWS DOES NOT AGE WELL! The implication being, tell the truth early, and often! It's the same with each of us... we spend years lying to ourselves when we look in the mirror... "I'll lose it eventually... I'll start next week... I just need to do this first, then I will start." Sadly, that day usually never comes for most. Somehow, I was able to wake from the lie, and told myself the truth... "You are going to die, leaving your wife a widow, and your kids fatherless". The truth set me free. It took away all my exscuses. Once we start telling ourselves the truth, then we have to start... do something, but START WE MUST! My start was a stroll around the building at work. 1X per day at first (equivalent to 2 laps around a track, or 1/2 mile), then 2X per day, then eventually 4X. Then I started walking faster. Then I started something else... making my own breakfast and lunch. The Bible says "Do not despise SMALL beginnings". They are like pennies, and they add up quickly! I started to feel better. Then I started to educate myself with free, easy to understand resources, and the FAT started to come off, and my energy levels soared.
YET... I had believed the lies for too long. Even after losing 70 lbs last year, the damage from the previous 20 years had been done... thus my open heart surgery 7 weeks ago to bypass 5 arteries. NOW WHAT? Sit around and feel sorry for myself, saying, "It's not fair. I worked so hard". NO... I accepted the CONSEQUENCE of my previous 20 years of poor eating choices... and I STARTED AGAIN!
Start: Walk from hospital bed to nearby recliner. Collapse in chair and hold pillow against chest to relieve the pain.
Goal 1: Walk to the hospital room door and back.
Goal 2: Walk to the nurses station and back.
Goal 4: Walk to the end of the hall and back.
Goal 5: Walk to the end of the hall and back 2X.
Go home
Goal 6: Walk to 500 feet to the end of the street and back.
Goal 7: Walk to the end of the street and back 2X a day
Goal 8: 3X a day
Goal 9: 4X a day
Goal 10: Walk to the end of the neighborhood and back, 1 full mile.
Goal 11: Walk a mile faster
Goal 12: Walk a mile 2X a day
Gaol 13: Start Cardiac rehab and get Heart rate to 100 BPM.
Goal 14: reach 110 BPM
Goal 15: reach 120 BPM
Goal 16: reach 130 BPM and sustain
Goal 17: reach 140 BPM and sustain
Goal 15: reach 150 BPM
And just like that, I am doing 30 minutes of cardio at 150 BPM 7 weeks after having my chest split open. And so it is time to START YET AGAIN!
Goal 16: Do 10 wall pushups (chest muscles have been dormant for 7 weeks!). when I complete this goal, I will add another goal.
ABOVE ALL FS FAMILY... TELL YOURSELVES THE TRUTH... THEN START!

it's funny cause we have a gym membership and it's within walking distance from our house but I haven't gone in almost 2 yrs lol. I think I like working out at home much better. No one looking at me. Plus, I use fun videos to keep me motivated. I watch the programs I want to watch while working out rather than watching whatever the gym has on. I think I want to see if we can cancel our membership BUT the kids play sports through the Y and we like being able to let them use the pool...oh well. I'll continue to work out at home because it's working for me and I can do it while my little ones nap rather than wait til after dinner to go to the gym (when I'm already exhausted and less motivated to go!) I have a stepper in my bedroom so between that, running up and down the street with some good tunes and power walking videos, I'm good without the gym.
I have learned NOT to weigh myself during my period or after the day after I work out. I never weigh on MOndays because I tend to over eat on Sundays between church and family gatherings. But I always make time, at least 3x a week, to work out and burn AT LEAST 300 calories each time.

Rockiesfan, I love this post. As someone who made a few false starts over the years before succeeding in getting healthier this year, I can relate to a lot of what you say. No, it is not easy, but if one is willing to work at it, it can be done. Thanks for laying it all out there for us so we can be reminded again that ultimately we have only ourselves to thank or to blame for what happens.

@ckworksalot, I had no idea about your heart surgery, glad to see you are on the mend and you know doctors can fix almost everything so hang in there and keep strong during your rehab and you will get to where you want to be my friend.
To the rest of you who have replied I am very touched thank you.
