I can't help but me mad at myself. I'm really having a hard time not eating in the late evenings. I do really good all day and then blow it. My fiance got a job driving a truck at night. He wears a blue tooth headset so we can talk in the evening. I'm not sure why, but after I talk to him I head right for the kitchen. I'm doing all my over eating after 8pm. I feel like such a loser. I'd gotten so far with my weight loss and now I'm going backwards very fast. Please any suggestions or thoughts as to why I might be doing this and ideas on how to stop myself would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it's an emotional response to him being gone, you miss him so you comfort yourself with food. My hubby works at night and it's like at the end of the day when the kids are in bed it's my time to binge. I think for me it was like a way to unwind after a long day, and it was just the wrong way to unwind. I am an emotional eater, so that's always where my head goes, that emotions lead to eating. Maybe it's just a freedom thing for you, no one is around so you can eat anything you want without anyone knowing, I've done that also. I started a diet this week that my gastroenterologist urged me to try and it basically cuts out most sugars, and I'm on day 5 and haven't had the sugar cravings that I used to have. It has taken every ounce of will power I have, but I do feel better. Also, if I start feeling the binge monster coming on I'll go brush my teeth and try to do something that will take my mind of eating, read a book, fold laundry, look up new exercises, etc. Good luck!!

i imagine you are heading straight to the kitchen because you are lonely now he is working away at night and you are seeking comfort food to distract you. Idea how to stop yourself is to make a plan and say "when i have finished talking to my fiance in the evening I will always [insert other healthy activity here]". Pour yourself a big glass of water whilst, not after you are on the phone, and then do whatever you decide will be your regular evening activity to distract yourself.

I agree it is emotional. Try having a hot cup of tea or sugar free cocoa to sooth and fill your tummy.

1 lb is not 10! You will be alright and turn things around. If you are going to run to the fridge after talking to your Fiance, limit the snack choices you have readily available. Dairy has always been my down fall, so I try to limit the cheese products in the house. Then there's wavy potato chips with dip, so neither of those live in my home unless I have guests. A healthier option of Pita Chips and Hummus does, but it's a heavier snack, so I don't eat it as often. I've also found that having a cup of hot "bedtime" tea, tends to reduce my desire for late night snacks. Good Luck on adjusting to his new schedule.

Whenever I feel the urge to eat because of boredom or emotional needs I go for a walk. It gets me away from the kitchen and clears my head of whatever was causing the urge.

Good Insights in all of the above posts...I would simply add...You have approx. a 1 LB per WEEK gain since the end of Jan (Please take this in the BEST possible way, but it could be a LOT worse!)...PLUS we ALL want you to PACE YOURSELF and NOT think you will lost all of this in ONE month...because it has taken almost 4 months to gain...AND your Mother passed in Feb. I am guessing that in addition to being concerned about your fiancee, your calls to him probably REMIND you of the love and support of your Mother...Time to RE-focus...and set reasonable goals...AND LET YOUR BUDDIES support you on a REGULAR basis...THANKS for YOUR COURAGEOUS AND HONEST POST TODAY...You are NOT a Quitter...YOU NEVER have been...Have a weekend filled with HEALTHY Choices AND Affirming People!!!! YOU ARE a WINNER....because YOU ARE HERE!!!!
