Johanne's Journal, 10 July 2011

Hot! Hot! Hot! And I'm not talking about the song. Even My AC can't keep up with it. The heat index is 110 and the humidity makes it feel like a really out of control sauna. I didn't have AC until my 30s. I remember my grandmother hanging wet sheets in the bay window and aiming the fans at them to cool down the room when I was a kid. How did we survive it before AC? I live in an "earth contact" house. You would think it would be cooler in here. Oh well. I'm going to lay down, listen to a good book and try to sleep it off. Yuuuuuuuuch!

I just got back all y'all. Thanks for checking in. It's going to be hotter tomorrow, and from what they are predicting, it is going to stay this way for the foreseeable future. The reason I remember my grandmother taking drastic measures to stay cool is, the record in Kansas City for this day according to Bryan Busby tonight, was set in 1954 . . . 105 degrees F. I would have been 10 at the time and I was still here in Missouri at that point. Pixi, keep an eye on your mom. We have had 8 heat related deaths in the last few days. Bren, love you too. Have a safe trip and a good visit with your sister.
