Went to the cardiologist's office today, and met with the nurse practioner. Told my results were "exemplary"!! She said I have no need to take a statin. My LDL went down from 160 in the fall to 128 this month, and my HDL is now at 82! Triglycerides are still great! CRP was 0.9. Lower risk than the average person. First time in years a medical practitioner didn't tell me I need to be on a statin! Diet is definitely the best medicine. Too bad most doctors don't feel it is worth pursuing this, or recommend diets that can make things worse!

Deep gratitude that I have found a path to better health. I have been eating this way for nearly 3 years now, and my health has steadily and continually improved. Weight...not so much! But I have not given up. Continuing to explore means of healing and getting better.

Johanne, I am eating mostly a paleo type diet. I eat the best meat I can afford; meaning pastured pork and chicken, grassfed beef, and wild caught fish. A local meat CSA helps make the meat more affordable. And Trader Joe's is great for fish. I eat whatever is most seasonal when it comes to veggies. Lots of roasted veggies over the winter. And sweet potatoes in a variety of ways. Salads will be a mainstay again soon. My breakfast is usually a variation of a bulletproof coffee using coconut cream, and coconut oil. I don't do dairy, I eat very limited eggs and try to just eat ones from the farm. I get reactions to gluten, dairy, eggs, and nightshades (tomato, peppers, white potatoes, and eggplant). So those are out for me. I was able to reintroduce eggs in a limited way after complete elimination for 6+ months. For fats I mostly use coconut oil, or ghee. But also use avocado oil, and olive oil. I make my own ghee using Kerrygold butter. (Grassfed!) I avoid processed foods. I avoid canola oil,and all vegetable oils in general, soy, sugar in all it's varieties, grains and beans. I cook my food because then I know what I am having, and it tastes better! When I do eat away from home, I do the best I can with the knowledge that it might cause me a little trouble, but if I eat clean the rest of the time, then I can get away with a little straying off the ranch. And finally, I eat chocolate! Nearly every day. But usually 85 or 90% dark chocolate. And nuts...usually raw and unsalted.

Another name for the diet I follow is the Autoimmune protocol. check out www.thepaleomom.com She is a scientist by background, and had many autoimmune issues. Did lots of research to develop her plan.

Thanks! I'm in the elimination phase now . . . again! I'm hoping to find out what's effecting me this time. Last time the holidays hit and I didn't do the reintroduction phase all the way. Even off of it, though, I was eating pretty clean, nothing processed and organic when I could afford it. I'll have to study paleo a little closer.

Congratulation's!!! I agree with you. It's a shame that a lot of Doctor's don't make more time and help the cure with diet. Many things are controlled by what we eat. My hubby's Doctor sent him to a nutritionist and I don't think she's that good. She's telling him to cut out the sugar here and there--soda, cake, but he can eat fat, bacon, pasta--and large amounts.

I am really happy to hear about your numbers! That is great! I will probably check in the Fall.

Good luck Johanne. That elimination phase is tough, especially in the beginning. But you get the best information possible about what your trouble foods are. Gearing up to test nuts and chocolate myself. Not quite ready for the full commitment that will take, so just trying to reign it in for now!

Doctors do not STUDY preventative medicine and Diet in Med School….They are CUT and Medicate Specialists. I have never met a nutritionist who GETS IT. Physician, heal thyself is a proverb found in Luke 4:23. 23 People -- We are responsible for our own health or lack thereof. What we put in our mouths cause 95% of all DIS EASE. I have been as guilty as anyone….Until I took control. Will I slip??? Trying not to. #1 Addiction of the Western World??? Alcoholism, Drugs? ---- NOPE F 0 0 D
