HerStrawberri's Journal, 30 June 2011

I have been kind of slacking on the journal entries lately. Just haven't been feeling it. I feel like I have been putting to much of myself out there the last few weeks and it has made me......I'm not sure of the feeling....just something that isn't feeling 'right' at the moment. I don't know. Not gonna get into it.

I have been trying different things with my food and cals lately. Mixing it up and stuff. Realizing I have been having way to much sodium. I've been trying to work on that. I have lost a lb since last weigh in but I'm not gonna log until tomorrow or sat. I feel pretty good about that.

My dad is sick and lives in AZ, so we are trying to get him to move back. He (me too) is originally from ILL and my sis and bro still live there so I'm hoping he comes back. it's hard to help a sick parent when they live over 2000 miles away. He is a very stubborn and prideful man so it has been a challenge. We will see I guess. Needless to say it has placed some extra stress this week. Well, not just this week but this week has been emotional because of that.

I'm glad this is a long weekend. I'm going to try real hard to NOT have any treats. I want to make my goal of 320 or below by 07/15 and so I need to stay on course.

Yes, Sodium can be a nightmare! But even when you're high in sodium, if you drink some extra water, it will help flush it through. So sorry to hear about your dad. I'm sure he'll eventually give in, it just sometimes takes people a while to see the right answer! Have a great weekend!

No worries Strawberri, this whole process can cause emotional ups and downs but I think you are managing it way better than when you started...no? You are being mindful about your sodium which is great and critically important with folks like us with HBP, it is not just about it causing water retention and a little water weight gain. I know alot of people say they don't worry about their sodium because they don't have HBP, but high sodium can CAUSE HBP and is a major contributor to stroke if not caught and attended to. (sorry I hijacked your journal to continue to drive this home with people and highten awareness). Good luck with your dad, I feel your angst about that as I was 3000 miles away from my parents for about 20 years but now that they are 80 we moved closer to them since I could not budge them out of their home with dynamite!! You are being a great daughter to step up for your dad!!!

you're doing really, really well - think of all the hard work you've put into this and don't have any bad food (can you really call it a treat?!) you can do it - have a wonderful & safe weekend!!

Thank you everyone! Babs~ I haven't done as good as I could in the past with my sodium intake. It's funny, when I was first diagnosed with HBP I told my Dr " I don't even like salt". I don't cook with it and I NEVER put it on my food. BUT when I really started looking at nutritional lables, it was amazing how much sodium was in everything. Especially lunch meat, turkey roasts, tomato sauce. All these things I now make myself. My BP is going down, THANKFULLY, but I will ALWAYS be more aware. Thank you for fighting the 'sodium' fight! =) We ALL need to be more aware!
