cathywick's Journal, 25 March 2015

I have been trying very hard to eat healthier but by the end of the day I find myself eating ice cream! I tend to do very well in the morning and most of the day, but it seems as soon as my kids get home from school, I want to eat everything they're eating. I think one of the problems is that I'm not actually following any particular diet. I have been eating more of better things and just less of bad things and I'm not sure that's working, in fact, I feel like I have gained weight. I think I'll look up a couple of diets tonight and see which ones look good. I'm open to suggestions!

You might start with counting calories and tracking all your food honestly. Maybe start off at 1500 a day and see what happens. It's always better to start high and cut as you go. Focus on getting plenty of protein, lean dairy, fruits and veggies. Drink you water. Be active. If you know certain times of day are hard for you, then have a plan. Set out cutup veggies and hummus for the kids and you. Cut up fruit with peanut butter or low cal caramel dip. Measuring cups and spoons are great weight loss tools. If you are at home, workout videos are great. Take the kids to the park and chase them around as the weather gets warmer.

Thank you so much Suzi for the tips. I definitely need to do something! I love the idea of cutting up veggies and leaving them out. Whenever I do that, my kids and their friends devour them! My kids are older and so a lot of times they'll go out and buy the chips and other unhealthy snacks and come home and eat them in front of me. They need to stop doing that! As far as being active goes, that's very difficult for me. I have a respiratory illness which leaves me short of breath doing simple things at home so I can't really "exercise". I am rejoining yoga next week! I really enjoy doing that and it doesn't leave me short of breath usually. I'll keep you posted! :)
