dougmcdaris's Journal, 28 February 2015

I went for a week with no carbs and then slowly increased my carbs. The carbs are less than 15 per day and yet I gained. I don't understand what is happening. The work to lose weight will continue.

Hey Doug. I think you are not eating enough food. Try adding some fat into your diet to up your calories. Cook in butter or olive oil. Add butter to your veggies. Eat a lot more veggies, such as leafy greens, green beans, etc. Men can eat more than women. You definitely can eat more protein also. You should be able to lose a lot of weight eating 50 - 60 carbs a day, but you have to have fats AND you need to drink a boat-load of water all day long to move things along. Good luck to you.

Good luck, man. I know how frustrating it is to plateau. Without knowing very many specifics about your diet, i'm inclined to agree with Mom2Boxers. Your body does need SOME carbs. When I encountered a similar plateau between last Halloween and thanksgiving, a friend of mine pointed out that i was eating 50-50% of my recommended calorie intake. Once I boosted it up and began eating 65-70% of my recommended intake, the losses continued. Seems counter-intuitive to me too. How could more food equal more weight loss? But, she was right and it did. (Still making sure there was a caloric deficit each day, though.) Your mileage may vary. Best of luck.

Doug: You gotta have carbs (the right kind) for the interaction btw carbs and protein. The ratio & interaction is critical to the calorie burn. Atkins book has good explanation of this. I learned this the hard way...

I agree with Mom to boxers. maybe check out the Low carb High fat diet - you can eat too little and your body just hold onto whatever it can. ketogenic plan may help.Good luck.

Also - the plan says "moderate protein" I believe - protein that our body does not use eventually gets metabolized by the liver into glucose for energy - which means glucose=carbs in your system. Some greens will help.

Since I added a few calories I am losing more consistently, go figure. If you go below a certain calorie amount loss stalls in my experience.
