Panigale1199's Journal, 03 February 2015

Urghhhh I was 138 back in august and somehow I gained 10 lbs OMGGGGG> I need to get on track but I cannot find the motivation. My boyfriend wont do any activities with me. So my only hope is my 2 puppies. One is already 2 years and she loves to walk, the other I rescued on Sunday and she is a 9 week old pitt mix. When she is older im hoping to take her on hikes, walks and play in the park this will give me some motivation this spring

I really need a gym buddies or something..

Aw thank you! I agree a gym buddie would be great, I just don't have many friends where I live..My brother is hard to drag to the gym and he isn't a great motivator. My puppies are great, I am really hoping to become more active with them this spring! But I used to love the gym and its easier to work out the whole body with all the equipment around but it would be nice to have a friend to share goals and knowledge with in the gym everyday.

My 6-yr old Springer Spaniel has been the best running partner. She is sure to wake me up to go for a run, even on days when I really hadn't intended on running.

My dogs (now 11 an 13) are too old to take running and they were some of my motivation. Don't take their age for granted. Enjoy your hikes/walks/playing with them now. :) Good luck!

I also gained 10 pounds since summer. Just take it one day at a time.

Pan... Find an exercise routine that works for you, but always remember... it's more important to watch what you put in your mouth! You can't do it JUST with exercise or the gym. CUT CARBS, and good luck!!!

i'm not bragging, but walking is great exersize, and I'm pasting this from my own Journal.. get yourself a good pr of walking shoes( I wear New Balance MX608V3W, 4wide, just cor comfort) and put alot of miles in as you will cee in my paste.. I started my diet in Jan '13 in support of my wife, didnt really need to loose alot, but I weighed 172# avg. in Jan of '14, i was down to 134# avg., and this yr, at 126# avg, My goal is to stay around the 130#, as I feel great, and it's nice to be 50 yrs old and be the size I was in H.S.!!We follow our own diet, watching calories, cut out alot of meat, eating "Morning Star Brand " Vegan where we can, She does the Gym, (btw, she was a size 24-26, and is now a 8-10!!) and I walk walk walk!! So as my post below says, you can do it, and substitute egg whites for eggs, no cal sweetener, use Almond milk, etc, and you can still have your desserts, just make them yourself with substutions, and treat yourself one day a week, mine is waffles with fruit and whipped cream for Sunday brerakfast. you will want to eat 1000-1200 calories a day to loose then no more than 1500-1700 to maintain, at least thasts what works for me! Good Luck! 03 February 2015 hi!, I'm just looking thru the challenges, and see the walk 100 miles in 12 weeks.. last yr I walked 1000 miles in total, and set a goal for myself this yr of 100 miles /month, or 1200 for the yr.. as of yesterday(2/2/15, I've walked a total of 212 miles this yr, would that count in the challenge, eve tho it's too late to join? lol I walk alot as you can tell, and challenge all to walk with me, averaging 5 miles per day!

wow thanks for all the helpful ideas! I hear walking is really good for you at all weights and ages. I need to get back into walking. I already started to take the stairs at work everyday so that is a start. ALso I do cut carbs but if I cut too low too fast I get really tired and have nausea. SO I am going to cut slowly. I am hoping to cut down to 50g carbs a day and only get carbs from fruit and veggies. Im trying to slowly drink my coffee black and my tea without any sweetener its hard but im working on it. Im glad though to hear that people have a little treat meal/cheat meal once a week to let the pressure off. I guess I feel very stressed and left out if I try to give up all the treats. I am thinking to treat myself to a piece of chocolate every now and then and have a cheat meal once a week every Saturday. Maybe this will put less stress on the whole diet thing

Wow Seaside, what a testament to the power of just simply walking! I do walk some at the gym but feel like an 'underachiever' at times with sprinters next to me. I find that running takes the weight off quicker for me but I am also getting older and it is really rough on my knees. Great job! Pani, Congrats on getting back to it, you can do it! We are here for support!

Hey itsmeonlyfatfree (btw nice username :P) I think walking is great- when I was in great shape two years ago I would walk most of the time because I lived in NYC and I would do 40x30sec sprints with 1-2min rest inbetween each sprint once a week. I noticed this combo kept the weight off. It was a great way for me to get the high impact workout without it slowly ruining my joints which can happen to some people who run a lot (this happened to my uncle who was a marathon runner for many years) So try doing a sprint workout once in a while because it will help build muscles and burn fat and do some walking the rest of the week!

I lost my workout partner 6 months ago. (He tore his Rotator cuff and quit lifting at the same level that I do). It took me a long time to get self-motivated, because I always did what he was doing in the gym. Once I wrote my first 12-week training program for myself, saw it through to the end, and saw great results from it; the fire really started to burn again. I think having a set goal (fitness-wise) with a deadline really helped me out. I'm on my second 12-week program now, 4 weeks to go.

Besides my four-legged running partner, I don't have a workout partner. I've worked-out solo for so long, I think having a partner would through off my whole routine.

I love that you rescued! Especially a pit. :) And empathy on the gain. Everyone has fluctuations. Re: finding gym buddies, where do you live? Could you start a Meetup group in your area?

My wife won't workout with me either.

I actually have a workout regimen from a fitness icon I follow (she is a great inspiration) and I followed it for a while-its just really time consuming and burns you out trying to follow it perfectly. I love how I feel after her workouts though. I might try to mold her fitness routine into my own life (maybe doing her workout routine every other day and then walk with the pups for an hour or more in between the days) just something to balance it out. I think I will take your advise and find a good routine and a deadline for myself. Help me stay motivated! @JW4444 thanks! I love pits, I think they are just butterballs of love :) I currently live in Hoboken NJ, I work a lot so its hard to meet people and I live on the uptown side where there is a lot of family and children, not many 24 year olds live on the uptown side. All the people my age live around the 1st-8th street part where all the bars are. Maybe I can try to find a fitness buddie in my condo or check out a meetup group like you mentioned
