extreme170's Journal, 30 January 2015

According to everyone else's posts, I think I'm the only one with negative results and thoughts about dieting. I think I'm just meant to be fat. One person tells u to watch calories, another person tells u to not eat over 45 carbs, the gym tells u to eat between 200-250 carbs a day. People tell u that 900 calories a day us not enough. But when u try to kinda put it all together, u stop losing weight and get weak with headaches, u feel like ur going through depression, even have to hold back tears for no reason. Dieting is SOOOOOO confusing. I've always been a simple kinda person

It comes down to calories. Everyone has their own little dogma. I used to be really anal about it all the time, but then started playing around a bit and found it didn't hurt. There are times I go low carb. There are times I go high carb. It depends on my goals. I find it harder to stop eating carbs, especially starchy 'complex' carbs. When I'm losing weight, I tend to eat a little of everything, by lean away from the starches. Haven't forgotten to do some math for you. We got buries under snow today. Still digging out and have some friends coming over.

Try to eat no less than 1200 calories per day. Drink 100 ounces of water per day. Log your food. Look at the percentages of macros in the pie chart when you log food. Try for 20-25% carbs, 35-40% protein and the rest healthy fats like avocado, nut, olive oil, etc. Net carbs is total carbs minus fiber so keep the carbs to fruit and vegetables, eat less dairy, more protein. When you eat lots of carbs they burn as sugar. When you limit the carbs, your body starts to burn the fat for energy. Food is nutrition and the quality of what you consume is more important than quantity. If you try to starve yourself, you ruin your metabolism. Our bodies are like cars, you must give them fuel to run. The more small meals you eat the more the engine runs and burn calories for you. Research the Paleo/Primal diet, It is a great way to eat that can fuel your gym workouts with protein and healthy fats.

Everyone says once u start eating healthy, you'll feel better. But it's been so bad today, I had to force my eyes to stay open while driving. All this is doing is making me sick and ha ing headaches since monday. And I've even been eating food and not the cabbage soup

Have you seen a doctor in a while? They be able to help you figure out why you feel that way.

I think sometimes people start too big. They decide to lose weight and they cut calories and start exercising far harder than they have in the past. The body has to adjust to too many things at once.

Can feeling cold all the time have anything to do with the way u eat? While im freezing in the house, everyone else is either comfortable or hot. I keep the temp on 72.

you have to figure out what is right for YOU. People at gyms are idiots. they have NO real training and just spout the BS that the big company tells them to. Everyone here has bad days and set backs. We are here for each other.

I think your right, Northernmusocian. We want fast results. Our bodies have to adjust. Sometimes we have to take our time making that adjustment. In my 20s I I worked out all the time. I got out of shape and two years ago when I decided to get back into shape, for some reason I thought I could just jump back into it. The first time I tried to do a workout that I used to consider a warm up, it was so horrible I couldn't even finish. It was frustrating for a while but I just had to take it slow. I'm still not where I used to be, but I'm not as far gone as two years ago either. It takes time.

I just checked your profile, and you may have unrealistic expectations. Weight loss is a long term thing . 11 lbs in 2 weeks is likely beginning water weight. A great start but NOT a rate you will maintain. 2lbs a week is what to expect on approximately 1500 calories and under 100 carbs if you are excercising. This is my own experience. I do under 30 carbs since I cant exercise and my metabolism cant take carbs. But definitely talk with your doctor about your dietary needs.

At less han 600 calories for the day, unless you didn't log something, you are going to feel like crap. No way around it, regardless of what the 600 calories was made up of. I think everyone can agree, a mom of 3 can't fuel her day on that little. Dehydration can cause a multitude of symptoms too.

It can be soo very confusing! I finally gave up on trying to figure out all the different diet options and stick to old school calorie counting. I do try to choose the healthiest option. And even that can be very confusing because EVERYONE has differing and very strong ideas about what exactly is healthy. I try to ignore fads and use common sense. But I think most important is to find what works for you. The most important thing is to do something. Everyone is different and that is why so many people swear by their method, but it may or may not work for you. It may be hard to find what eating plan fits you, but keep trying! :) Headaches can be a sign of withdrawl if you gave up caffeine. Also often it does get worse before it gets better. Sometimes you gain from execerise because you are gaining muscle mass. And sometimes you try an eating plan that just doesn't work for you. But after the struggle comes the reward. Hang in there and don't be afraid to change your eating plan until you find what works for you :)

Why not do some research for yourself about how your diet plan works? If you are following a low carb high Fat type diet, there is a TON of information out there on the internet (just look at what source the info is coming from). Stick with information from medical studies, well-respected professionals in the industry etc. If you are listening to people who are giving you advice based on a standard American diet, then yes, you will find it difficult to lose weight...just saying :)

You like to cook...try my soup 2 servings del monte whole green beans (canned) one can! 1 medium carrots 2 medium chicken breast or the other parts... 2 cups bean soup (1 can) or dry beans 1/2 cup 1 cup, dry, yields noodles or acini de pipi 1/4 cup 16 cups tap water 1gal. 5 stalks medium celery (sliced) 2 cups chopped onions 1/2 cup green peas (frozen) 2tsp salt 2tsp pepper lots of garlic or garlic salt to your taste 1tbs or... Directions Add two skinless boneless Chicken breast (raw) to a 6qt stock pot. Cover chicken breast with 32 oz of cold water add salt, pepper & Garlic. Bring to boil and turn down flame to keep boiling until chicken is cooked about 1 hr. Remove breasts, shread or chop return to broth add remaining water & other ingredients, return to boiling 1 hr. Eat... Now that your full, drink lots of water... Now my thought on your dieting is it is your life and body... If you wish to look and feel like a skinny person you must pay! If not then it is not worth paying the price! Right... I also think that this is not the case...you really wish to loose but are having a difficult time... Really your life style, exercise or lack thereof eating habits etc...all play into your emotional and physical outcome. Sometimes counting calories works but you need to make sure you are fullfilled so that you are not hungry all the time. This is where the water comes in...not pop, milk, tea, orange juice etc. not saying you cannot drink these things..cause the truth is you can eat whatever you want...but this is where you pay the price! The guide lines here definitly help...but it is up to you...2000 cals a day is not unreasonable...if you are counting. It is when you stop and add the lasagna which in itself has another 2500 cals which now adds up to 4500...ect... Take your time and figure it out for YOU! Good Luck and You Can Do This!

well, I just logged what I ate for dinner. NOT GOOD. I never looked at carbs until yesterday. my carb intake is terrible. and after my dinner, it made my calories 1100. u know, ive had so many rough times that I have pulled through. but honestly, THIS is the hardest thing that I have endured. to want something so bad and having to work so hard at it, not knowing if u will get to the point u want to be at, is so frustrating. if I knew that I would actually get down to the 200 mark, would just be refreshing. I haven't been to the weight that I want to be at since I was 14 or 15.

I looked at yesterday's menu. Thursday. It's actually not bad. Could use a little tweeking, but I've done worse. Much worse in the past. I agree with Kari29. Research and find a plan that works for you and one you could live with.

I know you are struggling today but it sounds like you have been doing well over the last month. I also know you get advice thrown at you from every direction. I do believe that counting calories is important from a knowledge standpoint but not as important as being satisfied. The book I recently read changed my thinking on diets. I highly recommend reading a sample if you can. Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat for Binge Eating: Mindful Eating Program for Healing Your Relationship with Food & Your Body or the original version (Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat: How to Break Your Eat-Repent-Repeat Cycle). Good luck and keep exercising and moving which is critical as well.
