Happy Thursday!

This is not really a rant...more of a series of unfortunate observations.

When I started this new healthier lifestyle I made the decision to keep my decision private. I chose not to tell anyone until they asked me about it. Those closest to me figured something was up right away when I said no to fast food and desserts, but others didn't really notice until I had lost at least 30 pounds. Now I've lost about 45 pounds and I'm getting questions about it all over the place.

I don't mind answering questions about my weight loss. I tell people I've changed my whole life. I'm eating less processed foods, less meat and more fish, I learned to like yogurt and gave up Diet Coke AND I started exercising at least 5 days a week...the response is almost always, "I couldn't do that...I couldn't eat fish/give up soda/eat less processed foods on a budget/exercise...or whatever change they are not willing to make. I find that a little annoying, but I understand them because I was that person until just recently. What REALLY ANNOYS me is when someone calls me and wants my suggestions because they've seen the change in me and then tells me why they can't make any of those changes. At some point I just get quiet and then say, "If you're not willing to change anything, nothing will change."

And then there's the people I believe are jealous. DIL#5 has her own struggles with weight. I have always been heavier than she is - until now. The other day she took me aside and asked if I was going to continue to lose weight, what is my goal weight?...I told her I'm going to keep up my healthy lifestyle and that will probably involve more weight loss, but I don't actually have a goal weight. When I stop losing weight, that will be my goal weight. DIL#5 gave me a whole speech about not getting "too skinny"...seriously?! I still weigh over 200 pounds! I don't think I'll have to worry about that for a very long time. *sigh...I haven't found the right response for the people who seem jealous.

One of these days my new shape won't be so new and I won't get all these questions and comments. Maybe I'll find out I miss all the attention and these things won't seem so annoying after all.

I couldn't agree more... keep it private because of all of the above... especially the ''jealous'' friend, cause sabotage is on her mind!

I totally love this entry! I feel your pain. I haven't said anything to anyone and now my SIL is bringing cake! I am just keeping on with my own thoughts and actions. I am doing this for me and me alone. I went out for supper last night and as a treat ordered a coke. I drank a couple drinks and asked the waitress for a water because it did not even taste good. It is times like that I want to scream "SEE, THIS IS WHAT I CHANGED!!" Keep going! You are doing great!

Bravo! I love this. I think many of us have seen similar things in our own personal journeys. It isn't really a diet, it is a lifestyle. If you view it as a diet, then that implies that it's a temporary thing. Like you, I look at this as a means to a healthier life. I have family members who don't want to put in the effort though....they want immediate results. They lament that they can't lose weight, yet they are not willing to make any changes. Kudos to you for your successful efforts and determination!

You rock, Hipaagrammy! I love "if you're not willing to change anything, nothing will change". It's so obvious and yet so abstract to some. Keep it up!

I can totally relate. After loosing 55 pounds in 3 1/2 months I get a lot of double looks. But others really noticed a few weeks ago when i bought some new pants ( 6 inches smaller in the waist) and shirt that was XL instead of 3XL. I was loosing so fast that I was not in much of a hurry to buy clothes because they would be to big soon. The only person who inquired as to how I lost the weight was a young mother whom I always see walking her dog during my morning walk. She told me she needs to lose 100 pounds and asked what diet I am on. I told her that Diets don't work but "Life Style Changes" do. When I explained what changes I made and put emphasis on cutting out the diet soda and walking. She stated that she could not give up the Diet Soda and hated the taste of water. I to was the same way but not many people believe how much diet soda/artificial sweeteners increase your hunger for the sugar your body was expecting. Our bodies were not designed to ingest all the unnatural foods sold today.

Congrats on the 45 pounds!! People started noticing my loss when I started wearing smaller clothes. There are 2 others at work, not in my area, they've changed lifestyles what they eat and exercise. We've all had the same response from almost everyone, they all want advice, when we tell them how we have done it they say that's too hard. They want some magic solution. We know that there is no such thing.

The comments I usually get about the healthy foods I'm eating is that it's too expensive. When I have them pull their grocery receipts out and look at all the "junk food" they are buying, they then get quiet because they can afford it--that is, not buying the unhealthy items anymore.

Enlightening conversation and I've enjoyed all of it. I lost 25 lbs. this last year and my goal is to do that again this year. It's no get slim quick solution...like you all said it's a lifestyle change and a new mindset. Take care all, keep up the great work!!

Those junk foods are non foods little or no nutrition. They are wasting their $$$$ and not helping their health. It is their decision to follow a healthy way of eating.

Our preacher stopped and asked me about mine. He said "you've lost a lot of weight. Did you have surgery?" I told him no surgery did it myself and told him what I've been doing. He's always had weight problems and his health is bad right now. I can't tell if he's interested in what I did or looking for a quick fix. Even my daughter asked for a list of foods I regularly eat. She's been working out and eating better, but she's not a cook so needed ideas. I don't mind sharing what I've been doing, but I wouldn't know what to do about the jealous types.
