Nikihampton's Journal, 28 January 2015

every since I weighted this am I keep reflecting back on last few weeks. even though ive been cutting back and limiting myself I have not been overly strict as I normally am when I do weight loss. trying to make it a life style change instead of a diet. I cant see me EVER giving up sweets completely or an occasional adult drink. or even a burger while on the run. My lifestyle is not a stay home mom. im a single mom with six kids and activities almost every night after working 45-50 hours a week. lol so a drive thru occasionally is a life saver. But I am being good at least in my own mind. I know I if I eat oatmeal or cereal in the am my scale will show it the next day. popcorn is the same way so I do stay away from those. But I keep wondering if I had not eaten the one piece of fudge one day or the cookies the other night as I had no time for dinner and the cookies where at the training session. or that glass of 1/2 sweet tea. or or or. would I still be stuck at 159 or would I have broken that hold. ugg. if I could just get 5lbs down I would at least feel like im getting someplace. im not even going down a pound a week. my old diet I would loose a pound a day lol. if im being productive I thought 3 pounds a week was normal. id be happy with ounces. just give me some indication im doing better. im sure getting on the tread mill would help but I really cant seam to find the time. I guess I could at midnight :) ok, ill get off my pitty party and get back to being productive at work. its hump day yall. it all gets better from here.

I think we can be pretty hard on ourselves if we don't see the change we want but if you look at your total drop 19 pounds since June that's great.

Niki, First no gain is a good thing, second you are an amazing woman if you are taking care of six kids, work a home all by yourself that is a feet in itself single parents don't get the credit they deserve it is very tough. I think you need to try and eat in the real world, what I mean just make some better choices for you if you have to go through the drive thru get you a chicken sandwich but don't do the bun, If you are craving something sweet have one of your kids gt a shake and have a couple of sips. If you start craving something have a little just not the whole thing. I will admit I have to have something sweet every single day and I do just not a lot of it maybe two cookies, a little slice of cake, a small brownie. I know you can do it you just have to figure it out.

Rockiesfan. I wish I worked at home. lol im locked up in an office. I used to be in outside sales and took a promotion but im in the office. I miss my freedom. But the pay increase is really nice too. I really have cut back. im really stumped why it wont come off. I even bring my lunch to work so I don't eat out much. been doing right at 1000 calories. drinking water and getting more rest than normal. i will break the stall eventually

Change one variable in your diet and exercise routine at a time. Have a couple full RDI days and a rest day once a week to let your body recover.

who knows what my rdi should be. on here is shows right at 1500 calories. I lowered it on my own but even with that I gain. so I try to be around 1000. ive also felt supper bloated this last week. with that ive been aware about salt. I don't really calculate or know what I need but I don't add it in my plate and cook with mrs dash a lot anyway. ive almost concluded that I need to seek out a nutritionist and get me straightened up. I only take a 30 min lunch break and then after work off to other things for kids so hopefully I can find someone that can do most over phone, email and online.

I'm not an expert, but I do know that I've read several times that an RDI under about 1,200 (especially if you're not looking to lose a large amount of weight) is actually harmful. It messes with your metabolism and sets you up to binge. It also makes your body think you might be starving and sets you up to start holding onto fat (in case food continues to decrease). Most things I've seen say to keep it at 1,200 or above, more if you're active. (See this: https://www.fitwatch.com/blog/3-reasons-why-eating-less-than-1000-calories-is-a-waste-of-time and this: http://www.livestrong.com/article/70221-effects-consuming-fewer-calories-daily/ for example of what I mean)

Wow. if I eat that much I gain. shoot protein shakes make me gain to. and that's if im eating good. I cant eat that many fruits and veggies. I do eat lean meat too but still. only way I can get over that if I watch what im eating is to eat sweets. (woot woot.) just kidding. I wont go to sweets yet. if I watch carbs I go over bc all the fruits and veggies are high in carbs. so that leaves only a meat diet. that cant be healthy either. so now I guess im open to suggestions.

Yes Lean meats poultry and fish and limited beef/red meats to maybe once a week. Lots of non starchy veggies. Three Servings of fresh fruit a day. This is what my Doctor told me. Don't go under 1200 calories.

What veggies are low in starch. seems they all are high. at least the ones I can grab and go with. cucumbers, carrots, celery, red and green bell peppers, raw squash. green bean. spinach leaves. ext. I do like nuts and cheeses. dried and fresh fruits. Greek yogurt and berries. chicken and fish/shrimp seems to be my main meats. if you see something wrong with this list please let me know and give other ideas.

Yes thoes little choices make the difference... I cut all alcohol and sweets and after a while you don't even think about them. And I used to blow it on weekends and ruin all the hard work I did during the week. So before you put something in your mouth always ask is this really worth the calories? You can always do a drive thur run for kids but have something in the freezer for you to heat up fast.

Hi Nikki. Just a thought! Maybe you could review some of the diet calenders of some of the more successful folks on FS to see what they're eating? No..........I'm not one of them, but I have seen some impressive success stories on this site. I know what works for one might not work for the next person, but how do you know unless you try? I've been asking a lot of questions of a few here on the site and they're ALL willing to help with good information. You've already done really well. Good luck.

What weight ive lost ws on HCG. it is a very strict diet of 500 calories and a hormone. I can do it and do well on it. but I also loose muscle mass and im getting to old for that. at 43 its to hard to get back. especially with little time to exercise. since going off of the diet. I went thru a nasty break up in a non healthy relationship and gained a little back and now that things are better I seem to be stuck. I want this to come off with out doing hcg. although HCG is the Only diet that ive been successful with. I am determined to change that.

Wow! 500 calories? I'll admit that I don't know much about the HCG plan, but there sure are a lot of different diet plans listed here that do some magical things for some folks. Personally, I prefer to count calories and try to keep the carbs lower while having 3 fruits and 3 vegetables, but I don't always make it. Like you, sometimes LIFE gets in the way. I've recently learned that not all fruits are equal. Some of the sweeter fruits (oranges, peaches, etc.) might be hurting my effort, so I'm trying to limit them. This is the type of tweeking I'm referring to. I figure if I just keep trying, I'll get there some day.

My hat is off to you - single mom with six kids! I could learn some organizational skills from you. I'm like others, I don't believe a diet of 500 calories a day can be healthy for anyone - and especially for someone with your routine. If you are gaining weight by eating above 500 calories, you need to see a doctor; you have thyroid or some other medical issue that needs to be addressed. I don't mean to intrude into your personal life, but restricting yourself so much will eventually implode on you.

dairy king. no intrusion taken. im not on that diet now. it does work for me but I loose muscle so don't want to do it again. I am gaining however at 1000-1200 and I have had thyroid tested not long ago as well as other blood work as I was having crazy headaches. (I think was stress). the 500 really wasn't bad and was only for 20 days at a time while on the hormone. you deffinaltly have to give your body a break and be causious. :) just want to do it naturally now.

Well, good for you at being your weight (close to my goal btw) and being a single mom of 6. I would weigh 300 easy! You're doing a great job! Now, what has worked for me, if you are interested (and if not, just stop reading because this is lengthy) I eat low carb and it is definitely not an all meat diet. If you have to do the drive through, get bunless burgers. Messier yes, but I used to eat them in the car all the time. I try to avoid fast food places now because I question if they have soy which I am also trying to avoid. I eat lots of leafy green veggies, asparagus, broccoli, bok choy, cabbage, cauliflower (whips up JUST like potatoes if you do it right, and you can also make 'rice' with it), mushrooms, and very small amounts for flavor of onion, tomato, carrot, bell peppers-but nothing starchy. I've lost 18 pounds in the last month. I know a lot of that is water weight. Back in 2003-2005 I lost over 70 pounds, my lowest weight was 156 but for me that was great-I am 5'7 and have broad shoulders and hips, I was a size 8/10. I got there eating low carb. Then I stopped. My body was super insulin resistant. I gain weight SO fast. Sugar is so bad for me personally, my body just can't even. :P So, if you are stuck, maybe try a ketosis or low carb diet, and just try it for a week. If you can prepare stuff on Sunday and freeze it or stick it in the fridge, that would help. If you do a keto diet, a lot of the information out there is for 75% of your calories coming from fat, 20% coming from protein, and 5% coming from net carbs. But for weight loss you want to eat more protein than that. If you would like more info, just message me. I've found recipes for pizza, cheesecake, brownies, ice cream-that even my picky kid likes. :)

I have just started this journey and look forward to a struggle at 159 Lbs. You are the mom of six kids. Know that as long as they are happy and you are health the numbers on the scale aren't all that important. It is about your health. I appalud you for getting where you are and encourage you to keep it up. Also, You can eat healthy at a drive thru you just have to be more selective.

I love recipes. I am willing to try anything new. my low weight is 135 I was a size 4-6 everyone thought I was to thin at 5'6" but I liked it. my body could not stay there but I stayed normally easily at 140-145. I feel that's a good place for me. but life happened and here I am. my high weight was 185 size 14. I vow to not allow that ever again. so here we are. :)

It's no wonder you were able to lose a pound a day on your previous diet since you were only eating 500 cals a day. As I said before that is not healthy and not sustainable in the long run. Now you just need to find a new, better lifestyle for you. It always helps to count calories, sometimes we are not even aware of how much we actually eat until we write it all down.
