Have you ever been doing some mindless chore and suddenly you notice life similarities? The other day, I looked at my very small backyard and noticed that it needed cutting, but basically because of weeds. The weeds were growing really tall and some of them were even pretty, sprouting flowers, but still not grass. Winter in Florida is usually a time we can get away with a couple months of minimal lawn care. I normally have "a guy" come take care of it twice a month but it really didn't need it except for the weeds. It made no sense to spend $50 to mow those down so I decided to just go pull them out. I needed the exercise and they were not grass and really just needed to go.

For the past couple days, I've been spending a few minutes here, a few minutes there yanking away. Nothing major, kind of fun. Today I was pulling the weeds while the dog was hanging out on the cement pad (I'm babysitting the old girl today) when it occurred to me that the weeds are a lot like the bad habits/traits in our lives. They sneak up on you and don't really become noticeable until they're bigger than the stuff we want to keep. Some look thorny but come out easily without any effort. Others look flimsy until you try to pull them out and they snap at the base. You know the root is still in there and you'll have to deal with it when it comes back but, for today, you've done the best you can to get rid of it.
Looking at the cement pad where I've been tossing them (so they won't re-root), it amazes me how MUCH there is when it didn't really look that bad at first. And there's still more.

Then it occurs to me that tall weeds are what happens when you don't pay attention to it for a while. It's a lawn uncared for, unnoticed. How many times has "just this once" turned into an every day thing, not really thinking about it until it's in the face? Or things that we know we should do/not do but it's not worth the hassle until it becomes a big thing and then we need to rip it out.

It's cool when God points stuff out to me. Then it's up to me to see if I'm going to do anything about it or let it grow.

Happy Thursday everybody.

Thank you for the insight. It is all about pulling the weeds out one at a time. Small changes, day by day, till one day, it happens. All the weeds are gone. All our excess weight is gone. We can leave it on the cement pad. Have a Happy Day.
