FullaBella's Journal, 02 January 2015

Tuesday? No, Friday. This time of year w/holidays one week after another always messes with my mind. Though I enjoy the days off, I'm glad the endless food days are over for a while. Time for me to rededicate my eating to what serves my health and lifestyle best.

I'm beginning to think any sort of dairy does NOT and am going to eliminate it starting today. I'll put the cheeses from Slick into the freezer and use something besides yogurt on my oatmeal for a while. And today, I'll resume recording my food; measuring too. I need to get a grip on this eating with a lot more mindfulness than I've demonstrated for a while.

Dreary rainy day here so I'm grateful I work indoors and am dry and warm. I just finished updating my shop books for the end of the year. Life is good.

Have a wonderful day,
Bells

You might try almond milk on your oatmeal or one of the other non-dairy milks, i"ve seen coconut, flax, hemp, and a couple others lately. WOW! books updated for the end of the year! You are on top of things!! I'm also back to tracking, gave up even trying the past couple weeks.

I am glad to get a grasp on the day of the week. Holidays mess me up too. Hoping this year gets you into the mode you want to be.

A new year! I'm all for those fresh start things as well. I have found that the unsweetened organic almond or soy milk works just fine on the cereal and can be substituted for regular milk in most recipes. I use organic plain greek yogurt for its probiotics, which do help my digestive system. It sure feels like Monday today and not Friday! You continue to inspire me! Onward.

I've tried & like both Almond Milk and Hemp Milk. However, everyone's taste vary a little. To me, for example, not all almond milks are alike. I can only stand unsweetened 365 regular (not vanilla) almond milk - it's the WholeFoods generic brand. Anything else and I can only use it for baking. I actually was making hot cereal with almond milk (rather than water) and then topping it with it too. Add a little cinnamon, raisins/currants and honey or maple syrup - yum! yum!

You sound as if you are getting a handle on things. Good for you. I think we all are in need of a new start and a fresh outlook. Hugs!

Sweet ce, I actually like the unsweetened vanilla almond milk that aldi's carries, whole foods is too far for me for regular visits.

Mom, I agree, and have looked at other options, and always go back to Low Carb. Although I have many Paleo books on my Kindle, I dont find it gels with me. But I haven't given up on it. I still peruse the books in the hope that something sparks my interest.

Rindaloo, a suggestion, if you are lookng for a way of eating. Take serious look at how you eat now, what you enjoy eating (no junk food the real food) and how you like to cook. Adapt it to keeping the calories under a certain limit for you and stick with whole no or little processed foods.

I tend to cook wholefoods and very little processed foods. I live in Turkey where fruit and veg are lush, plentiful and inexpensive and processed foods are more limited than US and UK. So that is good. If I eat what I like, I am drawn to sweet things, and they lead to mindless binge eating, so, Low Carb suits me. But I have been following it (on and off) since 2003, so, sometimes I dabble with alternatives like Paleo, Primal and Food combining. The sticking point for me with Paleo has the no cheese rule, and I do love cheese.

Hey Bella - how ya doing? Glad we are here today!

Rindaloo, America is overwhelmed with processed food. Looking at your diet calendar your calories are really low almost every day, I didn't go beyond that. Eat at least 1200 calories a day for health. I had trouble sticking to low carbs for the long run, yo-yo is not nice.... went to calories instead and foods that I like. Can not hardly eat sweets any more, they given me a stomach ache.

Yes, though my cals are listed, I dont count them, though I do look at them and am surprised they are SO low :) The reason I am drawn to Low Carb is that I am sure that not only does wheat upset me, but also if I eat sweet, I want MORE, like a monster. So I eat veggies and meat, some salad, and find it easier to keep on track. But maybe you have a point. Perhaps I could switch to paleo/primal (I like the fact the recipes shouldn't have additives, plus I can mostly access the foods here) and count calories instead. Keep away from the things that might make me binge though. Hmmmm -thanks for that :)

Many people can happily do low carbs and stick with it. I don't eat much meat (it doesn't like me much), but I do eat a lot of whole grains, beans, legumes and veggies. Processed foods have lots of additives, salt, hidden sugars that can really sabotage weight loss.

Rindaloo, primal does allow for dairy, but use the hard brick cheeses and not the processed (like American or Velveeta). You probably don't even have those there. Oops, we have highjacked Bella's journal. Apologies Bella. Hugs to you for not coming in here and bopping us with a frying pan over the head. :)

LOL - no apology necessary - I love it when this happens; hijack away. It saves a discussion for me here rather than trying to find 'which post was that'. Proceed :-)

Someone has suggested a book, which I have downloaded. It is called "Optimum Health the Paleo Way -Claire Yates. Its a good read and I think I need to stock up for it. There are all sorts of cheese here from rubbery cheese similar to edam, to hard goats cheese, from soft white cheese in brine, to string cheese or crumbly cheese that is stored in a skin. I like the goat cheese, its hard and strong, so you don't need much and it packs a whack. ;) Thank you for being a gracious host Fullabella. Its been lovely :D

It has been a nice chat in Bella's domain. Nice and comfy. :-) Hard core Paleo doesn't include cheeses. Some people are allergic to dairy and I think that is why they get so snippy about eating cheese. LMAO! I think we all need to find what we like to eat (as Wholefoodnut says to do) and eat in the whole food form and give up sugar but eat a bit of fruit instead with your cheese or nuts. The processed foods in the US have just about killed this nation. We have to get back to cooking again and stay away from the fast foods. (Yes, I am talking out loud but to myself also). I am the same weight I was last year. Something has to work. LOL!

Well if you aren't heavier than you were last year -that's a bonus :D Btw I agree with you about the cheese and the reference to Wholefoodnut. I certainly feel a lot healthier since we have moved here and arent having anywhere near as much processed food. Oh and I totally agree with you about processed foods. The latter half of the Fathead film confirmed what I had heard about the food industry and the government's advice. Big business has their hands up the politicians backs and that applies to the UK and US and lord knows where else (probably most of the world) and the victims are us.

It's interesting about cheese. I used to eat a lot of it, I eat it sparingly now. I love good cheese. I quit buying the usual store brands instead buy a small hunk of good cheese now and then on sale. A little of a good cheese goes a long way. I keep hunks of parmesan, pecorino, or Romano and shred it as needed, sometimes eat a sliver as it is so rich.
