Tullbergi's Journal, 14 December 2014

So I'm starting this website since there are certain motivational factors I'm lacking in my personal life. I tend to lose motivation really easily and the people in my life aren't really all that inspiring and what not. Weight loss is incredibly difficult on your own and some people don't understand that.

My dad's been badgering me to lose weight however whenever I don't have anyone to help me, I can't really do much. He's always telling me to cut carbs out of my diet completely however after research and studying, would it not do more harm rather than beneficial to cut them out? I just need some people to help confirm that for me.

Anyway, I haven't really been motivated to leave my room all that much today except earlier this morning when I went to use the restroom. Aside from that I haven't eaten yet and it's already 15:30. I've had plenty of water to drink however. I know not eating is unhealthy but sometimes I'm just not hungry or in that good of a mood to make something; I'm trying to get myself in the mood so I'll be able to do a light exercise later on, like a walk my dog around the neighborhood or visit a friend, however I'm simply not finding the motivation I need.

Things like this are difficult to get over...

I understand as it's 2:45 pm & I'm just eating breakfast. Helps to have support in any form. It is not supportive to keep telling you what worked for someone else. Everybody is different and every body had different needs. I've tried numerous diets over the years. While I found weight watchers to be the most beneficial, you have to belong to the right group. I hope you find the energy to walk your dog. That first step is the hardest. I miss my dog, as no matter how hard the cats try, I'm not motivated to get them breakfast any earlier than I'm willing to get up. My dog on the other hand, made it clear she needed to be walked and my happy ass had better get up and moving.

Getting up and going out just for a walk might lift your mood. And if you're out walking your dad can't nag you unless he's walking with you. Think about it as a way of getting to be alone and seeing someplace beside the inside of your room. :D

If you want to cut carbs skip bread, pasta, and rice. Keep the fruits and veggies, they're good for you. For a couple of years I didn't want to do anything or go anywhere either. My health was bad and I'm in constant pain. BUT getting out and doing something as simple as walking the dog can make you feel better and make you hungry. You should probably get your thyroid checked as well. A slow thyroid makes you tired and not hungry, and not eating or exercising slows the thyroid down. Vicious cycle.

You may want to cut excess carb calories, but please don't cut them completely. Yes, your dad is right in that you will lose weight, but once you ever eat a carb again you'll gain it back. It's better (more sustainable) to eat what you normally eat but eat less of it. Track what you eat for two weeks and see what your weight is doing. That'll give you a good baseline of where to go from there. Also, doing some weighlifting will really help your metabolism stay higher as you're losing weight.

I find that not wanting to cook is OK. I have learned to eat some simple, healthy foods, and can now make a good meal with no cooking when I am in a funk. I will not feel sorry for myself or negative. So...I had a cup of unsalted peanuts in the shell and a Fugi apple for my snack this afternoon. I had a ham sandwich on that weight-watcher bread for lunch with another fugi apple and I actually ate a carrot and celery and 10 bread and butter pickles with it. I had weight-watcher toast and no-fat cottage cheese sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon for breakfast with my coffee. I want to get off of the sugar, but this is way less than I've every eaten before now. Just trying to improve my health.

I have been slowly going from a low protein, high carb diet to more and more protein, and less carbs. A big help to me was to use "minute" brown rice as a carb, and cut bread. I get my 35 calorie per slice bread at a thrift store for $1 per loaf (Nickles Bread thrift store.) I try to do as little bread as I can. I fix cabbage with canned diced tomatos every week and put that concoction in Healthy Choice soup a lot for dinner. I'm trying really hard to get veggies into my diet. I'd appreciate ideas for weaning off of processed foods and low nutrient carbs. By that I mean eating my calories from carbs with little vitamins or minerals.

Appreciate examples of how some of you get veggies into breakfast. They say tomatoes are fruit.
