Well hello everyone!
I just wanted to introduce myself. This is actually my very first blog (unless you consider Facebook a Blog). I really don’t know what to talk about just yet, I guess until I get in the hang of things. The reason I decided to join Fat Secret is because of an Amazing coworker of mine. In a short period of time, she managed to lose 35 pounds and might I say she looks absolutely Beautiful. So that is where it started for me. I am currently trying to drop 20 pounds and what better way to do it by joining a network where everyone is pretty much on the same page. It’s really hard for me to open up so this is a start. Right now I am holding a full time job, a part time job, insurance education classes, and a boyfriend who acts like he is 5. It is sooooo hard for me to get a workout in, and when I do have the time I am so tired to the point to where I just want sleep. Is there something that would help with my energy, or does someone have maybe some workout tips that I can do right here in my office (without looking crazy lol). I would Loooooove for your feedback! Thanks!

Akilah

It sounds like maybe prioritizing the different parts of your life and being kind to your body might help. Remember, saying no to others is like saying yes to yourself. Think about what you need. I think it's hard for women in particular to say yes to ourselves and tend to our bodies' needs. We can get lost in helping others. That's crazy, but very true with the majority of women in my life. If your body won't let you exercise, it's probably been needing some TLC. I'd recommend you slow down, and enjoy life without commitments even if it's just 5 minutes of guided meditation in the morning. That might help to exercise. There's also a program I did that helped a lot for a few years. You can find the book. It's called 8 minutes in the morning. It's literally 8 minutes of exercise every morning for busy, awesome people. Hope these tips help!

Yeah, welcome. I used to walk the stairs during lunch hour. I worked on the 4th floor and we would walk all the way down, then walk across to the next stairwell, then walk all the way up to the top (8th) floor and then walk back down. It was a great workout and easy enough to do during lunch.

Now I walk to work and back, when I can. If I get into the habit of it, it's a no-brainer. Lately, it's been cold and slippery out there so too cold to walk, but I bought some cleats for my boots and the weather is supposed to be warmer next week so I will get back to my walking routine. Until then, I walk after work down at the gym.

Congrats on getting started! I have two 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch I walk on all of them. In the summer i would run and run the stairs in my parking lot. You might look like a nut case but you are doing this for you! I lost 27 lbs doing this. I have gained back 10 but that was from chocolate bars!!! We have a group of ladies at work and we go 2 to 3 times a day. Give it a try!

I have a pretty crazy schedule, too, but I get an hour for lunch. I joined a gym that is only a 5 minute walk from my office so I head there for a 20-30 minute workout. Search the web for HIIT, or Tabata workouts. They are usually only 20 minutes, but I've gained more strength/energy/endurance from them than I ever did at spending hours at a gym. Good luck. Stay disciplined at making this new lifestyle change!

Hope this helps. The prioritizing mentioned earlier is important so without ever doing a single exercise the firs thing is perhaps to figure out what's important to you. Your 5 year boyfriend will act accordingly when you see you mean business. I would suggest this exercise: On a scale of 1-10 how confident are you that you will do X. Of the things you think are important dig deep and see how much you're willing to dedicate to that. Anything lower than an 8,9 means your not yet ready for it. No judging yourself just acknowledging where you need to go. So ask yourself (this is just an example). Am I getting enough sleep? If you wake up tired all the time that may give you an answer. So you could ask yourself: could I get an extra 1/2 or 1 hour of sleep a day? What is the likelihood from 1-10 that I will implement that? You could do this for any of the physical things you need to do, eating more veggies, eating less sweets, etc. Once you have that choose one thing to change, only one! Do it consistently till you don't have to think about it, then do the exercise all over again for the next item. Is this going to take time? Yes, losing weight (fat) is a slow process and getting to where you are did not happen overnight. There should not be 10 things on your list 1 or 2 at most, till you make it a habit. My experience: I came down from 284lbs to lower than what I am now, I only gained some weight back because I ...well started acting like a 5 year old. Typical guy I say :-) So give yourself a chance! P.S. This works for me but since we're all different it may be the wrong approach for you but you will not know until you try.

Welcome, I would suggest that you commit to yourself the goal and that everyday you remember that it is a brand new day to make it the best day for you. I have no idea what to do about a man that acts like he is 5 except send him back to his momma till he grows up.

Welcome! You will find lots of support here. I also try to get short workouts at my desk without looking crazy. I use a deck of exercise cards called Fit Deck, and they have discreet exercises meant to be done at your desk.
