Deb_N's Journal, 17 November 2014

Hello, everybody! After my flu shot on Friday, I had a rough time getting to sleep. I felt tired and sleepy but I was busy so I didn't go to bed early. Lying in bed I noticed my neck muscles felt tight, my shoulders ached, and my whole body hurt. I thought about getting up and taking pain medication, but I just stayed in bed and after half an hour I fell asleep. Saturday I felt that my breathing is faster than usual and I should have slept earlier but it is a habit to go to bed late and get up late. On Sunday I woke up and felt pretty good, but after a while I started sneezing a lot and had a runny nose several times throughout the day. Not sure if the sneezing and runny nose is normal after getting a flu shot. Wish I wrote this before midnight. Oh, well. :)

Oh no! I hope you're not coming down with something. :( Get some rest and don't forget to eat. Sometimes when I'm congested, my appetite goes down quite a bit.

A lot of people get flu-like symptoms when they get the flu vaccine. Just drink plenty of fluids and get your rest like mom2threecrazies said. You will feel better in a day or so :)

The flu shot should not cause any symptoms except possibly a sore spot on your arm, it is not a live vaccine. It takes about 2 weeks to be effective. Usually it is something you are already coming down with. The old live vaccines were different.

I am not a fan of flu shots. I have seen way too many complications from them, especially in my family. I have aunts and uncles that get them then wind up in the hospital with the flu. So, I decline my flu shot, and if I get the flu, it's for a day, two max, then I get better. I would rather get the flu, because I didn't get the shot, then get the flu because I did get the shot. Hope you're feeling better.

I'm trying out a free Android app from Runtastic called Sleep Better. Looks good so far. Like it better than Android for Sleep.

Must be something with the flu shots this year. My wife, myself and my two daughters got the flu shot and 3 out of 4 of us winded up with a cold a day or two later. When you get a flu shot, it takes 7 to 14 days before your protected, so if your exposed to the flu before that, you can still get the flu. Better off getting the shot every year if your age is within the recommended age, you have other health issues that the flu may make worse or if you care for an elderly/sick person. Hope you feel better.

I got flu and pneumonia the other day. Shots didn't hurt or make me ill but I still have bruises and I was really sore.

Pneumonia shots can make your arm really sore. After them you should keep rubbing the site and moving your arm, it helps to decrease the swelling and from the pneumonia shot.

Thanks for the info, everyone! My arm doesn't hurt where I got the flu shot. The nurse told me to relax, so I guess that helped make the shot less painful. I'm still sneezing today but I'm feeling congested instead of a runny nose. It just goes to show you, if it's not one thing, it's another. lol Feel pretty good considering. :)

Take care and hope that if it is side effects from your shot with any luck it will be nothing like having a full on flu.
