ATTENTION DOG LOVERS AND ANYONE WITH A BIG HEART!!!

For anyone who did not read my post the other day about the Yankee Candle Fundraiser for "Dogs on the Move-Pawsitive 4 Life": this non-profit organization rescues dogs from the Miami-Dade Humane Society, which has the highest kill rate in all of the US. It's just ridiculous and heart-breaking, they have euthanized 55 dogs in the last TWO days. Yes, you read that right...FIFTY-FIVE, some of which were a litter of 6 week old puppies and their mother. This organization (DOTM) is ran by volunteers and is funded solely on donations from the public and fundraisers they post online (via Facebook, LIKE their page!). They transport dogs throughout the US to no-kill shelters, we adopted our last pup from them. I would ask if you would please consider buying from this fundraiser, they need donations now more than ever as evidenced by the above. It's a great fundraiser, everybody loves candles...there's also cute holders, potpourri, wax warmers, car trees, etc. 40% of the proceeds go to DOTM, that's very generous, so please if you were looking to purchase a gift or something for yourself, please please consider purchasing from there! Thanks :)

I did buiy some stuff. It was interesting that, on the news, they had a story on this very thing when I got home. There are 4,000 volunteer pilots that fly these dogs and puppies to No Kill shelters and homes across the nation.

I love puppies :) It's really sad how many are killed...I mean, 55 in two days time at one shelter...can you imagine what that number is across the US? It's heartbreaking...our dog came from there and I can't imagine wasting such a sweet dog... he has so much love :(

Yeah, it's pretty sickening. I just wonder if the people there made any attempt to reach out, or if the DOTM found out about it through the populace. You'd like to think that the people running a shelter wouldn't be that heartless.

One thing that makes me sad about shelters is that sometimes they mean well but stop dogs from finding homes because they have certain rules. 3 years ago my boyfriend and I went to our local shelter and they refused to give us a dog because we lived in an apartment so we didn't have a fenced yard, even though our apartment complex has a dog park and we said we would take long walks twice a day. We ended up having drive a couple hours away to find a shelter that would let us adopt.

I hear ya Bri...I tried adopting one back in Iowa and since I was a shift worker without a fenced in yard, I had no chance...however, the place we finally did get our last pup from (through DOTM) basically just gave us the dog without any questions...not sure I agree with that one either...but they do have a rule that if it's not working out to bring the dog back there no questions asked, they'd rather know they are safe than at a kill shelter...DK, one thing that enfuriates me about that shelter is they basically tell the rescues that they have a day or two, sometimes even HOURS to get dogs out before they say they are going to euthanize them...I mean, puppies c'mon now...those puppies I mentioned were available for adoption on 10-12 and were killed on 10-16.....they had 4 days and then they killed them and their mother...they need to reach out to more rescues or make it easier for those already involved in my opinion....

Well, we are living in an era where society doesn't even value human life, much less animals. Then there are ones on the other end of the spectrum that value animal life more than humans. I don't get either one. I am of the mind that anything with a beating heart that can't fend for itself, deserves to be protected until it can.
