Socolova's Journal, 16 October 2014

I did something silly last night. We went out for wings, our normal Wednesday thing, as most of you know. Well, I usually don't order wings, I just get like a chicken sandwich or fries or something to munch on. Not this time, for some reason I ordered 8 wings and a side of fries. I have no idea what I was thinking, I typically only want them when I'm schnockered or watching football or something. I think my only saving grace was I was smart enough to order sauce on the side so I could adjust my dunking. I didn't even enjoy eating them as I felt guilty the whole time, why oh why did I order them? Silly, just plain silly.....I just have no idea why I even did it......

I had to go back to the dentist today. Cracked a filling from last week, yikes. So the doc gives me the novocaine, it doesn't numb me at all (well, my ear was pretty numb and still is). So she gives me another, finally kicks in. Well, now it has all worn off (minus my ear) and it hurts sooooooo bad. I have no idea how I'm going to eat lunch....I guess that's one way to not go over your RDI...blah. I took some migraine meds, hopefully that helps.

This is the most debbie downer journal I've written in a while, I better quit while I'm ahead. Happy Thursday! C'mon Friday!!

Sometimes you have to eat those things that you are craving and unfortunately sometimes they are not as good as you think I had A blizzard on Saturday and it was just not as delicious as I thought it was going to be then I thought damn I just wasted a bunch of calories on that. Good luck with the dentist ouch

Ouch, toothaches stink...hope the migraine meds help. Don't worry about the wings, what's done is done, at least it'll remind you of what not to order next time. Yup, c'mon Friday!

Oh, Twinnie. Have you considered making something else your "normal Wednesday thing" that is in closer alignment to your health goals? I've done that for several parts of my life like instead of dining out, we might eat in and then go roller skating, play laser tag or something else active that doesn't revolve around unhealthy food that derails healthy goals. It's just a suggestion for you to mull over.

I'm thinking the wings didn't taste as good because you were already beating yourself up for ordering them. I have a tendency to do that, as well...just have to live with it and enjoy the moment. Then, work my ass off to burn the calories. Good luck at the dentist.

It's more my husband's thing and I just tag along since it's a tradition, I don't think I was even actually there, it was just some shell of me that ordered them...I honestly never do...

Very good! Congrats! Think we all wish we could eat chicken wings and still lose weight...hahaha :P

"I still lost .8 lbs..." There ya go! Remember wings are light, birds do fly with them after all. :)

I give myself one cheat meal per week. (I've had a hard time dieting at work due to co-workers that don't seem to understand I don't lose weight eating breakfast sandwiches from McDonalds every day) I've been off work this week and have actually lost weight! We eat out Friday nights as it's the only night my whole family is together (someone always has work/school otherwise) so instead of stressing over trying to stay within my diet limits, I enjoy eating out with my family. No one has to cook or clean up and we just enjoy being together over a hot meal. I have noticed that I get full faster, though. Maybe you need to just allow yourself this one meal per week as well and not feel guilty over it.

Agree - just enjoy the food, especially if you still dropped nearly a pound. I've recently gone thru the toothache ordeal - root canal end result - but by product was I ate less. ;) I love wings with my son. I do as you did, order sauce on the side. Honestly, besides fat content, the protein seems worth it to me. No fries though. Well, ~some~ fries from my son's order.

I hope you feel better! Any pain related to the teeth is the worst.

Are chicken wings much worse than a chicken sandwich - or is it the sauce? (vegetarian here) I definitely advocate a cheat day or a cheat meal or two per week. I would never stick to a diet if I didn't go off plan once in a while and enjoy something I like. Now, cheating in moderation is something I still need to work on ;)

I think it's more that the wings have skin on them...I am usually a boneless, skinless organic chicken kind of girl...kind of like all the skin/peel in fruit/veggies has more nutrients??

Ugh, I hate the dentist! Hope you feel better soon!

Haha, I know what you mean, I feel guilty the whole time I'm gorging myself on wings, pizza, lasagna, spagehetti, burgers . . . Oh wait, I feel guilty about everything I eat. I get over it pretty quick though. I think that's the real problem; the guilt doesn't drive the right behavior. I've learned to be quite callous about it; it doesn't bother me as much as it used to, and that bothers me. In fact, I think that's true of a lot of my vices. Hmmm, I don't think I'm helping much here. I think you need to strike a balance between deprivation and satisfaction, so you don't get to the point that you're willing to fill the void with anything and everything. Instead, eat what you do like in moderation, and enjoy every darn lick of the thing that keeps you from binging.

You know, when your mouth hurts...eat what you can handle. The diet train can start moving again later, when your whole body is ready to get aboard!
