grand89's Journal, 02 October 2014

This work week is kicking my butt. I've been so tired, I've missed two workouts this week and there's still two days left in the week. The weekend can not get here quick enough.
On the bright side, I've only got 2 weeks left before I head to Germany for a week. Of course, it's for work but it'll my first time overseas. I've only flown once and that was just an hour flight so I'm a little timid and excited all at the same time. You can't beat a trip that is completely paid for and I'll I've got to do is supervise a piece of equipment being decommissioned.
Have a great day everyone.

You might talk to your doctor about the plane ride. They may prescribe you something "just in case." People handle being in the air for that long very differently and you don't want to be stuck at 30,000 feet and very uncomfortable.

I frequently have to travel overseas (Philippines) - it is a 24 hour travel (across three flights). I would also talk to your doctor about taking baby asprin . . . if you can take aspring it is recommended for any time that you sit for long times (ie long flights) to help prevent blood clots. Have fun!

I agree with the baby aspirin. Sitting for long periods can cause blood clots. Also, try Damimine (spelling??) (motion sickness OTC medication). I have to use it when flying. I get motion sickness in vehicles and air. Just a thought!! Have fun in Germany. BTW, you mentioned decommisioning equipment. That's not nuke talk, is it??

I'll be in Dresden removing a piece of semiconductor manufacturing equipment that will eventually make its way back here to Texas for us to use. Thanks on the advice about the aspirin, I'm totally new to this flying thing.

Take an unopened package of mints or gum that you can give away. I had to sit next to a man with bad breath on a long flight from Europe back to the states...he slept with his mouth open pointed in my direction! Take your own snacks (Emerald almonds come in 100 calorie packs and are low carb, come in smoked, vanilla, and chocolate for whatever craving is hitting you!) like almonds and cheese. I take a small pillow and aim for a window seat...you can lean your head against the wall which is great on a long trip. Have a great time. My daughter-in-law is from Germany. I was impressed with their cleanliness, lack of mobile homes, and so many places to walk and shop (or browse). Have fun!

Very exciting! Great that it is a free trip even though you are going to have to work. You might have already read about DVT. Just remember to get up and walk around in the plane occasionally.
